Compress video in PowerPoint on Mac ???

I've got a 140mb video embedded in Powerpoint 2016 on Mac. It appears that I should be able to compress file and hopefully eliminate lagging audio. I see how to do this all over the Internet if I was on Windows. Found direction to "format picture" but can't find that command with the video selected. Can anyone help?

Second, the reason I'm embedding the Mp4 file is I tried using the same video fro youtube, but when I sent file to colleague, she wasn't able to open the youtube embed. Couldn't figure out what's going on there (it opens on my machine). I'd rather use the Mp4 if I can get it compressed and that solves that lag issue.

Thanks

    Hi Many Rains,

Thanks for your posting in Microsoft Community.

Currently, It's not feasible for the PowerPoint for Mac to compress the video as it doesn't conclude such an out of box feature like Office for Windows version.

Using the online video is a good idea here, but unfortunately your colleague can't open those videos. This could be caused by many different reasons, for instance: Her PowerPoint for Mac is in an older version which doesn't support online videos. Or her networks might behind some proxy settings which block all the links to the YouTube, etc.

So, in your current scenario, the only workaround is to export your embed videos and compress them via the 3rd party services. I've searched on the google, seems like there are many free online services which can help you reduce your video size.

But according to the code of conduct in this community, we couldn't provide you with such links, really sorry about it.

Also, I think it's a good idea for the PowerPoint for Mac to have the same function as Windows version does, so I would kindly suggest you share your feedback in the PowerPoint UserVoice, which is a specific platform for us to collect user's request. Your suggestion will help us improve our Products and give users a better experience.

    We greatly appreciate your understanding.

    Regards,

    Alex Chen

Thanks for the reply! So, for academic purposes, am I understanding that there simpy is a difference between Mac and Windows machine with regard to this capability? Wow?

As to the solution you're suggesting. I'm wuite familiar with compressing jpgs to insert on websites, etc. through online compressing services. So you can do the say thing with videos I guess? Never thought about it. That sounds like a great solution. Thanks.

    Hi Many Rains,

Yes, this is caused by the Office version difference between Windows and Mac. We are deeply sorry about the inconvenience.

If you have further questions on the Office in the future, please feel free to post back in this community. We will be here for help.

    Regards,
