That screen usually means BitLocker encryption was triggered, and Windows wants the BitLocker recovery key to unlock the drive. This can happen after a BIOS update, hardware change, too many wrong PIN attempts, or sometimes just a firmware/security check. The key is a 48-digit number that was created when encryption was turned on.

First check your Microsoft account from another device like a phone. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey and sign in with the same Microsoft account you use on that PC. If the device was set up with a work or school account, sign in to https://entra.microsoft.com or https://myaccount.microsoft.com and look under devices or BitLocker keys, or contact your company or school IT admin because they often store the keys centrally. If you ever printed the key or saved it to a USB or file, look for a document named something like “BitLocker Recovery Key” or a text file on a USB drive. Some people also saved it to OneDrive automatically when they first enabled encryption.

If you truly cannot find the key anywhere, there is no supported way to bypass BitLocker encryption. The only remaining option is to erase the drive and reinstall Windows, which will delete all files. From the recovery screen you can usually choose Troubleshoot then Reset this PC, or boot from a Windows installation USB and reinstall.
