Email Account was hacked. How do I recover my emails?

My outlook account was hacked recently and the hacker managed to gain full access to the account.

I have since then managed to gain access to the account.

My question is how do I recover all my emails?

The hacked had deleted all of my emails from the inbox and trash.

I have since enabled 2fa, changed password and added recovery email address.

Kind Regards

MHB

    Hi Mehedi Hasan Sarkar

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I’m sorry this happened, getting your account hacked and having emails deleted can be extremely stressful. And you did the right things by regaining access and securing the account.

Just to confirm, could you let me know approximately when were the emails deleted? Recovery chances are strongest the sooner you try.

In addition, here's what you can try:

     1. Check Archive or other folders

    • Check all folders (including Archive, Junk Email, and custom folders)
    • If found, move them to the correct folder.

    2. Check Deleted Items & Recoverable Items

    • Sign in at Outlook on the web via https://outlook.live.com
    • Go to Deleted Items folder
    • If the emails aren’t there, select Recover items deleted from this folder at the top and restore anything you recognize. (if available).
    • If the emails are still within Microsoft’s retention window, they should appear there.

    3. Review Inbox Rules

    • In Outlook on the web, go to Settings > Mail > Rules/ Forwarding
    • Look for any rules that move, delete, archive, or forward/redirect messages.
    • Disable/remove anything you didn’t set up

For more details, you can also see Recover and restore deleted items in Outlook - Microsoft Support

If you don't see anything to recover, please let me know and I'll guide you further. Thank you so much for your time and understanding.

To recover your deleted emails from your Outlook account after it was hacked, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Deleted Items Folder: Sometimes, deleted emails may still be in the Deleted Items folder. If you find them there, you can simply move them back to your inbox.
    2. Recover Deleted Items: If your emails are not in the Deleted Items folder, you can try to recover them using the "Recover Deleted Items" feature. Here’s how:
      • Go to the Deleted Items folder.
      • At the top of the message list, select "Recover items deleted from this folder."
      • Select the emails you want to recover and click "Restore."
    3. Check for Archive: If you have previously archived your emails, check the Archive folder in your Outlook account.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to recover your emails using the above methods, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance. They may have additional tools to help you recover lost emails.
    5. Monitor Account Activity: Since your account was hacked, keep an eye on your account activity for any suspicious behavior and ensure that your security settings are up to date.

By following these steps, you should be able to recover your emails or at least get assistance from Microsoft if they are not retrievable through the standard methods.
