Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Bob Gill,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I understand that you are having issue with Microsoft Store return credit. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.
Based on your description, the return happened many years ago and it was done at a physical Microsoft Store in Vancouver. Since all physical Microsoft Store locations (including Vancouver) were permanently closed in 2020. Any in‑store credits not converted into a Microsoft account balance or a gift card at the time of return are no longer accessible through the store system today. There is no mechanism to “look up” or re‑issue walk‑in store credit from many years ago unless it already exists in your Microsoft account balance.
What you should check right now (this is the only path)
1. Check your Microsoft account balance
Sign in to the Microsoft account you used at the time of purchase and look for an existing balance:
- Microsoft account > Payment & billing
- Look for Microsoft account balance
If the credit exists, it will automatically apply at checkout in the Microsoft Store (including Microsoft 365 purchases).
Note: Purchased balances do not expire, but promotional balances do. Retail return credit behaves like purchased balance only if it was actually added to your account.
2. Contact Microsoft support
If you need further help, please contact Microsoft support for the best assistance. Contact page: hhttps://support.microsoft.com/contactus
- Open the link above
- Sign in with your Microsoft account
- Select the product (for you: Microsoft Store or Microsoft 365 & Office)
- Choose Billing / Account / Refunds
- Click Contact Support
- Select: Chat with a support agent, or request a call back (they call you)
Please note that the chat support team only works during certain working hours. Therefore, if the last window indicates that you are unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.
3. Look for proof of the original return
According to my own research, Microsoft Support might require documentation. Examples:
- Original receipt
- Return receipt
- Gift card number or email
- Order history entry
I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.
Best Regards,
