Hi everyone, I hope this message finds you well.

I have a few issues with my Azure account that I hope you could help me to solve.

I Can't access my Azure Portal due to Tenant Blocked - Sign In Error AADSTS5000225

Since the beginning of January I've been trying to access my standard directory but I've been facing this issue related to the tenant mentioning that it's been blocked due to inactivity.

Can't activate MCT Visual Studio Subscription

Recently I also joined the MCT Program after passing the PL-300 exam and am very excited to prepare training material but when I try to activate the account I still receive the Tenant Blocked Sign In error in the pop-up screen.

Can’t update credit card information on Payment Options in https://account.microsoft.com/

I’m sure if that is related to the Tenant Blocked issue but I also can’t update a credit card information from a previous expired card

I’m not sure if this would be the correct place to solve the MCT Visual Studio subscription issue, but solving the Sign In failed would be a big progress for me.

Dealing with AADSTS5000225 is a high-priority issue because it involves a strict countdown. This error indicates that your Azure (Microsoft Entra) tenant has been inactive for over 200 days, and Microsoft has soft-deleted it.

Here are the immediate steps you must take.

You mentioned that you have been facing this since the beginning of January. You have little time to act now.

0–20 Days after the block: The tenant can usually be reactivated by Microsoft Support.

20+ Days after the block: The tenant enters a permanent deletion phase and is generally unrecoverable.

Since it is now mid-February, if the "block" (the day the error first appeared) happened in early January, you may be past the recovery date. However, you should still attempt the following steps immediately.

Because you cannot log in to your tenant to open a support ticket, you have to use this method:

Global Support Hotline: Call Microsoft's Global Customer Service.

-Ask to speak with the Data Protection Team or Directory Operations.

-Explain that your tenant is blocked due to inactivity (AADSTS5000225) and you need it reactivated to access your MCT benefits.

Create a "Bridge" Tenant:

Create a completely new, free Azure account using a different email address.

Log into the new tenant and open a support ticket from there.

In the ticket, explicitly state: "I am the Global Admin of Tenant [Your Old Tenant ID/Domain]. It is blocked with error AADSTS5000225. I need this escalated to the Data Protection team to unblock it so I can access my MCT subscriptions."

Impact on MCT & Billing

MCT Visual Studio Subscription: You cannot activate this because the "Identity" (your email) is tied to the blocked tenant. Once the tenant is unblocked (or if you are forced to move to a new one), you will likely need to contact MCT Support at the MCT Forums to have your benefits "remapped" to a healthy tenant.

Credit Card/Payment: You cannot update the card because the billing profile is owned by the blocked tenant. This is actually a common reason tenants get stuck—the card expires, the "inactivity" clock starts, and then you're locked out of the very screen needed to fix it.

The error message you are seeing indicates that your tenant has been inactive for more than 200 days after the billing cycle, which triggered Microsoft's process to remove inactive tenants. At this stage, the OMS commerce system places a login block AADSTS5000225, Twenty days after this block is applied, the tenant is permanently deleted.

To restore access, the tenant must have been blocked for less than 20 days. After 30 days, the tenant is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

We can reactivate your tenant only if it has been blocked for less than 20 days, please share the requested details in private message so that we can reactivate your account.
