Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

This issue occurs when there is a miscalibration in your Excel. In this case, kindly follow the steps provided by Q&A Assist. However, if the issue persists, I recommend repairing Microsoft Office on your PC. Kindly follow the steps below:

Press the Windows key + R, then type in:

    appwiz.cpl

    Then hit OK

Look for the Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 app > Right-click, then select "Change" > Select "Quick Repair" Then follow the prompts to repair.

If Excel is crashing frequently and running slowly, there are several potential causes and solutions you can explore:

    1. Temporary Files: Accumulation of temporary files can slow down Excel and cause crashes. You can clean out temporary files by accessing the Temp directory. On Windows, you can do this by typing %temp% in the Run dialog (Win + R) and deleting unnecessary files.
    2. Large Number of Controls: If your workbook contains a large number of controls (like checkboxes or hyperlinks), it can slow down performance. Consider redesigning your workbook to reduce the number of controls.
    3. Virus Scanner Settings: Some settings in your virus scanner can interfere with Excel's performance. Try temporarily disabling your virus scanner to see if it improves performance.
    4. Tracking Changes in Shared Workbooks: If you are tracking changes in a shared workbook, this can increase the file size and slow down performance.
    5. Used Range Problems: Oversized used ranges can cause slow performance. Make sure there are no hidden rows or columns that are unnecessarily large.
    6. Online Repair: If the issue persists, consider performing an Online Repair of Microsoft Office. This can fix corrupted components. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Microsoft 365, click on the three dots, select Modify, and choose Online Repair.

After trying these solutions, restart your computer and check if the issue with Excel persists. If it does, you may need to consider moving to a 64-bit version of Excel or breaking your workbook into smaller files.
