If you are unable to use Word after paying for your Office 365 subscription, it could be due to a few reasons. First, ensure that your subscription is still active by checking your account at https://account.live.com under the subscriptions section. If it shows as active, make sure you are signed into the correct Microsoft account in the Word application.

If you continue to experience issues, you may want to try updating your license within the app by going to Files > Accounts and clicking on "Update License." If the problem persists, it may be necessary to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Hello Steve Kennedy

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum

Because Q&A assist have already suggested some troubleshooting steps you can try, I would like to also suggest some additional troubleshooting method for your issue.

After checking your subscription page and make sure your subscription is active, the problem could be that the Office apps aren't updating your sign-in. You will need to force the license to update as follows:

You must sign out of your account in all Office apps on your device > Close all Office apps > then sign in again.

If that still doesn't solve your issue, here is an instruction on how to contact Microsoft support:

    1. Open a website link - Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the box below "We're here to help", type Microsoft 365, click "Get Help", and then click "Contact Support" below.
    3. In this section, you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account.
    4. Select "Microsoft 365 and Office" under Products & Services, select "Technical Support" as the category, and click to confirm
    5. You can select " Chat with a support agent in your web browser " to access the chat window.
