Word (MAC) randomly jumps to the end of the document when I click on a blank page.

I am editing a 100+ page book. I can no longer click and select a blank page... like if I make a page break, and then want to select that blank page and delete it... if I do, it either jumps me to the very bottom of the document, or if I really insist (clicking multiple times) and force it to select, when i do that it selects THE ENTIRE document starting from that blank page. So if I'm editing Page 10, and try to delete P11, it will delete the whole doc from P11 onwards.

I do not have any keyboard, trackpad issue. I haven't changed anything in my setup. I am using a 2 year old macbook pro. I have done the same things, inside of Word, that I have done many 1000s of times, and this issue started 2-3 days ago. It's honestly ridiculous.

Is this a bug that MS is working on fixing right now? Or has anyone experienced this and knows how to fix? Thanks! :D

I have this same problem and it's driving me insane. It started with a recent update as well.

The only way I've found to be able to add something to a blank page to keep it from jumping to the end is the use the Navigation Pane (View > check the box for Navigation Pane). So if I have a blank page, I select it in the pane then my cursor will actually show up on that page and I can type or paste stuff on that page. It works the same for pages with text/images already on it too. This isn't a fix though and I still end up on the last page by accident sometimes.

Another problem that started at the same time is Word randomly tries to close a file I have open while I'm working in another Word doc. I typically have 3-5 Word docs open at a time when I'm working, and it'll just chose a random one and ask to save before closing. I hit cancel and it's fine, but it's still annoying.

I had this same problem. I spent 45 minutes online with Microsoft's Help Desk. I deinstalled the entire Office Suite and then reinstalled everything. It solved the problem for 24 hours.

Please, everyone, contact Microsoft's Help Desk and let them know. I don't think they're paying attention. They need to issue a new update and will only fix this if enough customers complain.

Yes. I worked in the document for about 90 minutes. Closed Word, but didn't shut down my computer. When I returned to it late the next day, the problem had returned.

Did your Office apps recently update? May I know which version of Office apps you are currently on right now?
Did this issue happen again even after trying to restart your computer?

New suggestion: Please try to install an older Word (for example 16.104 or 16.105) to see if this issue happens:

Hi Austin, thanks for the reply. I checked the version of Word and it says Version 16.106 (26020821). I may have updated it recently - I do get a periodic banner message advising that there is a 'latest version' and I usually just click update straight away. I can work around the problem by selecting some text on the page after the blank page and then deleting backwards from there, but it's really frustrating and slowed down my work flow... and also periodically, even when I try to avoid it, I still get thrown to the very last page of the book. I've tried restarting, and it doesn't fix the issue. I'm guessing the problem will go away after another update and then a different glitch will appear in its place.

This said - if you're aware of a way to stop this happening, I'm all ears.

Please consider my new suggestion mentioned above. Hopefully it could go back to the previous state that it works normally for you after reversing back to 16.104 or 16.105.
(You just need to try only with Word application).

Hey, I just deleted it and reinstalled - and the exact same thing happens. If i select the last word on a page it actually ignores the blank page and then selects the first word on the following page. Proper broken. I couldn't see how to roll back a version from your link, sorry - it just redirected me to the Learn landing page. I think I'm ok for now - I'll just wait for this glitch to hopefully go away.

Hi, just fyi I clicked on the Show/Hide Formatting Marks button... and then it accepted to let me type a . on the page next to the page break. Then it let me delete that page. It still doesn't show a cursor and still not behaving 100% normally... but at least it didn't force me to the bottom of the doc like a psycho. Cheers again for the help.

Having the exact same issue here. It's incredibly frustrating since it started out of nowhere.

I tried installing an older version - and it still happens. It looks like I'm not alone. I think I'll just wait for MS to make a fix to this prob. Can live with it for now. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your insight about this.

I've got a chance to test on my Mac as well - my version is 16.106 and my macOS is Sequoia 15.7.1 - I did not encounter this issue.
As for Stewart Allen and gr98 mentioned about this happening after OS update - this could also relate on the new macOS version. As I decided not to upgrade the macOS Tahoe right now - I did not have this issue from my end.

My best guess is to click on Help > Feedback > Report an issue and type this issue into the feedback sender on Word.

I had the same problem for a 235 page book. I saved the file to a .doc format in the 97-2004 version of word and it seems to have fixed the problem. I was frustrated like all of you seem to be....good luck.
