I ordered Microsoft Office, not knowing if WORD could be ordered without the other software

I purchased Microsoft Office on the 8th of February 2026, on yearly subscriptions. I am78 years old and the only software in this package that I use is WORD. Was I able to purchase WORD without the other software (Publisher, Excel etc) and if so, would it have cost less? If this is possible, can you disable the software that I don't use and refund any difference in the price. Or, help me with a solution please. I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Trevor.

You can purchase Microsoft Word separately without the other applications included in the Microsoft Office suite. However, the specific pricing and availability can vary based on the region and the current offerings from Microsoft. If you purchased a subscription that includes multiple applications and you only need Word, you might have paid more than necessary.

Unfortunately, I cannot disable the other software or process a refund directly. I recommend contacting Microsoft Support for assistance with your subscription and to inquire about any possible refunds or adjustments based on your needs.

The Word program is available individually but the cost [US $179.00] is the same as the Office 2024 perpetual license and includes fewer perks. See these sites for details:

    Office 2024 — Office Home 2024 - microsoft.com

Word only — Buy Microsoft Word (PC or Mac) | Cost of Word Only or with Microsoft 365

It's worth noting that unlike the MS365 Subscription neither of those editions will receive any future feature additions or enhancements. They receive bug fixes & security updates only.

If your needs for an Office suite are limited, a one-time payment license such as Office Home 2024 would be a better choice. However, that version will only let you install Office on one computer for one user (no mobile access and no OneDrive storage included). See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/p/office-home-2024/cfq7ttc0pqvj .

If you go for that option, remember to turn off recurring billing for your current subscription version and then cancel it. For more, have a look at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/cancel-a-microsoft-365-subscription-46e2634c-c64b-4c65-94b9-2cc9c960e91b .

As an alternative to Office, you can use the LibreOffice suite for free. This is open source software with no charges. It includes a word processor, presentation software and a spreadsheet program.

EDIT: As Ron pointed out, you can purchase Word as a stand-alone product. It appears to be as expensive as purchasing the whole Office Home 2024 suite, though. See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/p/word/cfq7ttc0pbmb .

Hi Roarie, yes you can purchase Stand alone Microsoft Word. See: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/p/word/cfq7ttc0pbmb (Which can be used for Business purposes) Or you could have purchased Office Home 2024 as suggested by Stefan.
