How can I remove the parental controls when I go to a website?

so when i am trying to log on a website on this computer it requires me to request permission. I am the sole owner of this computer (my travel computer) and no one else uses this but me. I do have a second computer(my stationary home computer) that I use and I don't have these issues on my other computer. I did correct the birthdate in one of the profiles but I got lost in the process. It appears as if I have a family account, assuming that means/includes both computers, but I need help removing that restriction off my account or computer. Can you please help me? Again, as I am just trying to post this message, it is tagged with some parent and child dropdown...frustrated!

    Hello Victoria Edwards,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how confusing it is when your computer suddenly asks for parental permission even though you're the only one using it.

This usually happens when the Microsoft account on that computer is marked as a child account inside a Microsoft Family group. Even if you own the device, the age settings or family role linked to your Microsoft account can trigger parental controls.

Here’s how to remove the restriction:

    1. Check if your Microsoft account is in a Family group
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account you use on the travel computer.
      • Look under Your family: if your account appears under Child, that is why permission is required.
    2. Remove yourself from the Family group
      • If you see yourself listed as a Child: Click your name > Select Leave family group.
    3. Confirm your birthdate
    4. Sign out and sign in again on the computer
      • Sometimes Windows keeps old Family Safety data cached: Sign out > restart > sign in again and try the website.

    Hope this helps

To remove parental controls on your computer, you may need to adjust the family safety settings associated with your Microsoft account. Here are some steps you can follow:

    1. Access Family Settings: Go to the Microsoft Family Safety website at family.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    2. Manage Family Members: Check if your account is listed as a family member. If you are the organizer, you can manage the settings for all family members.
    3. Adjust Permissions: Look for the settings related to web filtering or activity reporting. You can disable these features or adjust them to allow access to the websites you want to visit without requiring permission.
    4. Remove Restrictions: If you find that your account is still under parental controls, you may need to remove your account from the family group or change your account type to an adult account.
    5. Registry Keys: If you are comfortable with advanced settings, you can also modify registry keys related to parental controls, but this should be done with caution. The registry keys for child safety can be found in the Windows registry under specific paths, as mentioned in the context.

If you continue to experience issues, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
