My account has been hacked and I need to change the email

My Microsoft account has been hacked and was changed to an unknown account. It was linked to a gmail which has never been accessed and a phone number (which I could still use). I’ve changed the password many time to ensure no one logs in. On the Feb 9th gmail sent me emails about suspicious activity but I didn’t see it and yesterday I found out I couldn’t log-in. I filled out an account recovery form (which was successful) and was instructed to change my password. I then did the thing where I change all the security information that takes a month. When I submitted it I found out the hacker could easily cancel it. Is there anything I can do? Any form of help would be appreciated! (This is my other account)

What do you mean by "linked" to your Gmail account? Do you mean you used your Gmail address as the username for your Microsoft account or do you mean you used a Gmail address as a verification address for a Microsoft account?

If you can still log in, use the "Sign out everywhere" option on https://account.live.com/proofs/manage to make sure the hacker is logged out. It will Log you out as well. Log in again and change the password. Then add your correct verification information and add two-factor authentication or a passkey.

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

Are you speaking of a Gmail account or are you speaking of a Microsoft account that uses a Gmail address as the username. They are entirely different and it's important to know the difference. If you're having trouble accessing a gmail account, that's a problem you'll need to bring up with Google support. However, if you're speaking of a Microsoft account for which the hacker changed the username from the Gmail address to some other address, then that Microsoft account is probably gone. One the primary alias has been changed, there will be no way to get the account back.

You speak as though you can still log into the account. If that's the case, the username cannot have been changed or how could you be logging in? Please be explicit in describing the exact symptoms.

It sounds like you're dealing with a serious issue regarding your hacked Microsoft account. Here are some steps you can take to try to regain control:

    1. Account Recovery: Since you have already filled out the account recovery form, ensure that you provide as much information as possible to verify your identity. This includes old passwords, details about your account activity, and any linked accounts.
    2. Change Security Information: If you haven't already, change your security information as soon as possible. This includes updating your recovery email and phone number. However, as you've noted, if the hacker has access to your account, they might be able to cancel these changes.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If the automated recovery options are not working, try to reach out to Microsoft Support directly. You can explain your situation and ask for assistance in securing your account. Use the official support portal to connect with a support agent via chat, as they may have additional tools to help you.
    4. Monitor for Unauthorized Activity: Keep an eye on your account for any unauthorized changes or suspicious activity. If you regain access, check your account settings thoroughly.
    5. Secure Your Devices: Make sure to run antivirus scans on all devices you use to access your Microsoft account to ensure they are not compromised.
    6. Inform Your Contacts: If you suspect that your account has been used for malicious purposes, inform your contacts to be cautious of any suspicious emails or messages they may receive from your account.

It's crucial to act quickly in these situations to minimize potential damage and regain control of your account.
