Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
On Windows 11 Home, device encryption (BitLocker) is often enabled automatically to protect your data. When Windows detects a significant system or hardware change, it may require the 48‑digit recovery key to unlock the drive. This is a security measure designed to keep your information safe.
You can check this Microsoft's official document: Find your BitLocker recovery key. There are several places where your recovery key might be, depending on the choice that was made when activating BitLocker.
Please check if the recovery key was saved in any of these common places:
- The Microsoft account that was used to sign in on this device
- A work or school account, if one was ever used
- A printed copy or a text file saved to another device or USB drive
If the recovery key cannot be found and the device was not registered with an account, there isn’t a supported way to unlock the encrypted data. In that case, the available recovery option is to reinstall Windows.
