Hi,

I bought a Key from a provider to upgrade my Windows 11 home to Upgrade to a Pro version.

The Key was bought in November 2024.

But I forgot all about it and tried to install it tonite.

When I inserted the new Produst Key the system informed that the Key is not working.

Well, to my knowledge when we buy anything, we have the ownership of it for life.

Windows Home is within its life cicle as well as Windows 11 Pro.

What can I do to solve this issue.

Kind regards for any help.

Ric

    Hello

you cannot use the pro key directly on a home edition.

Use the generic key to install Pro first, then use your own key to activate it after that.

You can go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key

Disconnect internet, and disable any third party antivirus, key in the generic key instead: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

That should get you to Pro. Once restarted, you can connect back to the internet, then this time key in your own product key

If you are experiencing issues with a product key for upgrading from Windows 11 Home to Pro, there are a few potential reasons for the rejection:

    1. Key Validity: Ensure that the key you purchased is valid and has not been previously used or activated on another device. If the key is from an unauthorized provider, it may not work.
    2. Upgrade Rights: If the key was purchased as part of a promotion or under specific conditions, it might not be applicable for your current version of Windows. Ensure that the key is specifically for upgrading from Windows 11 Home to Pro.
    3. Activation Issues: Sometimes, activation issues can arise due to hardware changes or if the system does not recognize the key as valid. You might want to try using the Windows Activation Troubleshooter to see if it can resolve the issue.
    4. Contact Support: If the key is valid and you are still facing issues, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They can help verify the key and provide guidance on how to proceed.

It’s important to keep in mind that ownership of a product key does not always guarantee activation, especially if there are restrictions or if the key has been flagged for any reason.
