Hi

Family Safety pops up everytime pc starts up to log in with user.

Small black box pops up, shortly after a white box and disaperears.

I can do it again and again. Log in not possible.

And same for Edge. User log in not possible. White box pops up and close. Not even possible to type in password. Just closing.

Tried reset, Clearing browser. Reinstalled Edge. Nothing works.

I have another pc and this works perfectly. No Log in issue.

Everything in Windows Update is up to date.

Hope for some help. Google is not my friend at this moment :)

    Hi DearMrH,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

From your description, it looks like the sign‑in window briefly opens (small black box > white box) and then closes before you can enter your password.

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below to focus on refreshing the Windows sign‑in experience that Edge, Family Safety, and other Microsoft apps rely on:

1, Clear stored Microsoft sign‑in credentials

    • Press Win + R, type control, press Enter
    • Open Credential Manager > Windows Credentials
    • Remove entries related to Microsoft, MSA, or OneAuth
    • Restart the PC

    2, Repair Windows sign‑in components

    • Open Command Prompt (Run as administrator)
    • Run sfc /scannow
    • Then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Restart when finished

    3, Reset Microsoft Edge settings

    • Open Edge and go to edge://settings/reset
    • Select Restore settings to their default values
    • Restart Edge and try signing in again

    4, If the issue continues:

    • Create a new Windows user profile
    • Sign in to Edge or Family Safety from that profile

If it works there, it confirms the original Windows profile is affected, and moving to a new profile is the most reliable workaround.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with logging in and synchronizing your Microsoft account on your PC, particularly with Family Safety and Microsoft Edge. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for Account Status: Ensure that your Microsoft account is active and not disabled. You can do this by signing into your account on another device or through the Microsoft website.
    2. Clear Credentials: Sometimes, stored credentials can cause login issues. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager and clear any stored credentials related to your Microsoft account.
    3. Check for Group Policies: If you're in a managed environment, check if there are any group policies that might be preventing you from logging in or syncing. You can do this by going to edge://policy/ in Microsoft Edge.
    4. Resync Microsoft Edge: In Edge, go to Settings > Profiles > Sync and try to resync your data. If that doesn't work, consider resetting the sync settings.
    5. Event Viewer: Check the Event Viewer for any error messages related to the login attempts. Look under Windows Logs > Application or System for any relevant errors.
    6. Reinstall Edge: Since you've already tried reinstalling Edge, ensure that you completely remove all user data during the uninstall process. You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, selecting Edge, and choosing to uninstall.
    7. Windows Update: Ensure that your Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, pending updates can cause issues with system functionalities.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
