For desktop software that you can use at no cost, take a look at the open-source program LibreOffice, which has good compatibility with Office file formats.

I'm afraid the AI bot is misleading you. The Microsoft 365 Education program is available at cost to educational institutions, not individuals. The institution then can grant usage to qualified students at no cost as long as the individual maintains student status.

Other than that there is no free availability of Microsoft Office software. However, you can use the Office Online web apps at no cost. However, the web apps lack many of the more advanced features of the desktop software. You also may consider the Microsoft 365 Basic Plan & Pricing (Includes OneDrive 100gb Storage ... which does not include the desktop programs.

For personal use, the only free version is the one you access in your web browser, for example via https://onedrive.live.com.

I see that you posted your question in the "For education" category. Does that mean that you are a student? In that case, your educational institution may provide you with an Office license, to be used for as long as you remain a student. Check with the admin or IT support how to access the product.

To use Microsoft Word for free, you can access Microsoft 365 Education, which offers a free version of Microsoft’s tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for eligible students. To sign up, you need a valid school email address to verify your status. If your school is part of the program, you can register through the Microsoft education website.

If you are not a student or do not have a school email, you might consider signing up for a free trial of Microsoft 365 Business. This allows you to try out the service for a limited time before deciding to purchase a subscription. However, after the trial period, you will need to pay for continued access.

If you are encountering issues while trying to sign up for a free version or trial, it may be helpful to check with your school’s IT department or Microsoft support for assistance.
