Anchor Links in the New Outlook Planner

When can we expect a fix for the known issue of anchor links not remaining active when creating a Planner task from an email? It is a pain in the butt to have to go back to the email folders to find the original email when the email should be linked to the task.

    Dear @Peterson, Jeremy (JM)

I completely understand that this behavior is not ideal, and I truly appreciate your flexibility in using a workaround while the email link is not showing correctly in Planner. As a forum moderator, I hope you understand that I don’t have the ability to modify or escalate product issues directly.

To help ensure this issue receives proper visibility, I strongly encourage you to submit feedback directly through the Microsoft Feedback portal. Sharing your real-world scenario is one of the most effective ways to make the product team aware of the impact and to help guide future improvements based on customer experiences like yours.

Once you've submitted your feedback, feel free to share the link here in the comments. I’ll be happy to upvote it to help bring more visibility. If you prefer, I can also submit the feedback on your behalf. Just let me know, and I’ll post it for you and share the link once it’s published. I’m here to help ensure your feedback gets the attention it deserves.

Additionally, as other users have raised similar concerns and may not be aware of where to share their feedback, I hope this response helps clarify the situation. Highlighting this information can make it more visible to others in the community who may be facing the same issue, making it easier for them to find guidance and contribute their feedback as well.

Thank you again for your time and for raising this important usability concern.

I can see the link to the email when I view MyDay or ToDo in the navigation pane in outlook. However, if I open Planner and open the task there, I no longer see the email linked. I'm updated on the version of Outlook

    Dear @Peterson, Jeremy (JM),

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how inconvenient it is when the email anchor link doesn’t remain active after creating a Planner task from the New Outlook.

To help me better understand the situation and assist you effectively, could you please share a few details such as:

1/ Are you currently using the New Outlook on the web or the desktop app?

2/ Have you updated your operating system and the Outlook app to the latest version?

3/ Could you provide a screenshot of the situation where you are unable to open the linked email?

4/ Are you adding the email to a personal Planner or a shared team Planner?

This will help us better understand the context and provide more targeted support. Any additional information will help us better understand and support you.

Below are some steps you can use to verify the feature and ensure everything is configured correctly:

Ensure your operating system, browser and New Outlook desktop app are fully updated.

    • Add an email to Planner (To Do) in New Outlook

Step 1: In the New Outlook, open the My Day pane > Select To Do.
Step 2: Navigate to the Planner you want to add the task to, whether it's a personal plan or a shared team plan.

Step 3: Click and hold the email you want to add, then drag it into Add as a task.

Note: If the email does not drag in, it may be because the message is currently open. Select another email first, then try dragging the intended message again.

    Step 4:

    • After the email is added, you should see an Email icon inside the task. Clicking this icon in Outlook should open the original email directly.

In Planner, the task will show a Classic Outlook icon. When you select the task and open the Attachments tab, you should see the attached email.

Note: Even though the icon appears as Classic Outlook, selecting it will open the message correctly in the New Outlook on the web.
