A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hello Dan Benyamini,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I realize that you've encountered a problem with opening Microsoft 365. I truly understand your confusion. Let me assist you further.
Based on your description, you’re describing two problems happening together:
- Microsoft 365 keeps asking for a passkey, then
- It fails and says “not connected to the internet” even though you are online.
This pattern usually happens when the Windows sign‑in/token system gets “stuck” and Office can’t complete authentication.
I suggest you try this:
1. Restart Windows network services
- Press Windows + R
- Type services.msc > Enter
- Restart Network List Service
- Restart Network Location Awareness
- Close window
- Open Word > Sign in
2. Bypass the passkey (sign in normally)
- Open Word
- When passkey screen appears > click Cancel
- Click Sign in another way
- Choose Password or Email code
3. Reset network adapter
- Press Windows + R
- Type ncpa.cpl > Enter
- Right‑click your active network
- Click Disable
- Wait 10 seconds
- Click Enable
- Try Word again
4. Turn on Bluetooth (required for passkey)
- Press Windows + I
- Go to Bluetooth & devices
- Turn Bluetooth ON
- Retry Microsoft 365 sign‑in
5. Remove broken passkeys (PERMANENT FIX)
- Open browser > go to https://account.microsoft.com/
- Sign in using password or email code
- Go to Security
- Remove Passkeys
- Restart PC
- Open Word > Sign in
I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.
Best Regards,
