How to unlock hotmail email account

We have a locked hotmail.com email account that has been used for 30+ years! The account was locked out about 2 months ago when we tried to clean up our emails while we were still traveling outside US and the systems detected some unusual activities that it automatically locked down the account.

We tried several times per MS hotmail email account recovery instructions, but we are in a dead loop. The problem is we didn't update our login options, e.g. authenticator, phone number, workplace email, etc. so we have to take the last resort: provide recent emails our friends/family members received from the account. Though this is the easiest for us and most reliable way (we believe) for Microsoft to identify us, we still got auto-decision emails from MS saying not enough info is provided. We are kind desperate and believe it must be fairly simple to identify us if a live agent is involved, but we couldn't figure out a way. Help please!! Thank you.

I understand your frustration, as I'm a Microsoft user as well.

However, account blocking is a fully automated security measure. Microsoft Support will not be able to assist with manual unblock, recovery and escalations, as stated in this article, that they are not permitted to send password resets, access, or even change any details on the account:

You can try checking the guide notes on how to fill out the recovery form through this link:

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Since you do not have access to the verification methods linked to your account for a password reset, I'm afraid the only way to recover/verify the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account.

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, do you have the 25-character recovery codes for the 2FA?

If yes, please go to account.microsoft.com > Forgot Password > click "I don't have any of these" on both verification methods > click "Yes" on the 25 recovery code (if you have one) > from here, you will be asked to wait 30 days in order to update your security info and recover your account.

During this time, you will not be able to sign in to sites or services with your account.

However, if you do not have access to all of your verification methods (phone and email) and the 25-recovery codes from your 2FA, I'm afraid it is no longer possible to recover/verify the account.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

To unlock your locked Hotmail account, follow these steps:

    1. Wait for Lockout Period: If your account was locked due to unusual activity, it may be temporarily locked for a period (usually about 24 hours). Avoid further attempts to log in during this time as it can extend the lockout period.
    2. Use the Account Recovery Form: Since you mentioned that you haven't updated your recovery options, you will need to use the Account Recovery Form. Fill it out with as much accurate information as possible, including:
      • Recent email subjects you sent.
      • Email addresses of your contacts.
      • Any past passwords you remember using.
    3. Provide Detailed Information: When filling out the recovery form, ensure that you provide detailed and accurate information. This includes any recent emails your friends or family received from your account, as this can help verify your identity.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If you continue to face issues, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support directly. You can do this by visiting the Microsoft Support page and selecting the appropriate options for account recovery. They may have additional tools to help verify your identity.
    5. Be Persistent: If you receive auto-decision emails stating that not enough information was provided, try resubmitting the recovery form with even more detailed information. It may take multiple attempts to successfully recover your account.

Unfortunately, direct human assistance is limited for consumer accounts, and the recovery process is primarily automated for security reasons.
