Major Privacy Breach by Support Agent & Unresolved Student Subscription Issue (Case 7097879520)

I am posting this to document a severe security and privacy incident that occurred during a support session today, as well as an unresolved subscription issue that has been ongoing for 2 weeks.

1. The Original Issue (Unresolved): I have a valid Microsoft 365 Student subscription that is supposed to include 1 year of LinkedIn Premium.

I verified my student status and activated the subscription 2 weeks ago.

I never received the activation email/code for LinkedIn Premium.

LinkedIn Support has confirmed this is a Microsoft issue and directed me back here.

Despite multiple support requests, I am being sent in circles with no resolution.

2. The Privacy Breach (CRITICAL): Today (Feb 15, 2026), I chatted with a Microsoft Store Associate (Agent [Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed] , Case [Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed] ).

I requested a transcript of my chat for my records.

The agent emailed me a file that was NOT my transcript.

It was the full chat log of a completely different customer.

This file contained the other customer's Full Name, Email Address, and private case details.

When I informed the agent that they had just committed a severe data breach, their response was casual ("Oh, sorry my bad") and they refused to bring a supervisor on the line to acknowledge the breach, claiming the supervisor was "on break."

Resolution Required:

I need an immediate manual resolution to my missing LinkedIn Premium benefit.

I need formal confirmation that this privacy breach has been logged and escalated to the Data Protection team, as I now hold evidence of another customer's PII being mishandled.

Note to Moderators: I have retained the evidence but am not posting the other customer's private data here to protect their privacy—something the support agent failed to do.

    Hello S D

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum

I can see that you have a valid Microsoft 365 Student subscription that is supposed to include 1 year of LinkedIn Premium. You have verified your student status and activated the subscription 2 weeks ago, but you have never received the activation email/code for LinkedIn Premium.

Here is a workaround you can try to help you resolve this issue:

    • I suggest you wait a full 24 hours before trying to verification again
    • After you 24 hours, when you attempt the verification again, you should use Upload documentary proof instead of the other methods. You can do this by:
      • Clicking the link for “Use a different method” and then click the link for “Upload documentary proof”

Note: You must enter their personal (non-EDU) email address, not their school email in the Profile section - email address

About your concern with the security breach, because this is just a Community Forum, so this issue is outside of our support capability. You should reach out to support chat again or create a new thread about this security breach issue only and set the tag as Microsoft Security.

Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance about your Microsoft 365 issue, I'll be happy to help.

It appears you are experiencing two significant issues: an unresolved subscription problem with your Microsoft 365 Student subscription and a serious privacy breach involving another customer's data.

    1. Unresolved Subscription Issue: For the LinkedIn Premium activation issue, it is recommended that you continue to reach out to Microsoft Support for assistance. Since you have already verified your student status and activated your subscription, they should be able to provide you with the necessary activation code or rectify the issue.
    2. Privacy Breach: Regarding the privacy breach you encountered, it is critical to report this incident formally to Microsoft. You should ensure that this issue is logged and escalated to the Data Protection team. Microsoft takes data protection seriously, and they have processes in place for handling such incidents. You may want to follow up with Microsoft Support to confirm that your report has been escalated appropriately.

For your peace of mind, you can also refer to the GDPR guidelines that Microsoft follows regarding data protection and breach notifications, which emphasize their commitment to handling such incidents diligently.
