Something has changed in the recent update. The notification centre will fail to open, and only by rebooting or restarting Windows Explorer will it fix it. But you will all your notifications.

Also, you can no longer click on the pop up notifications to open them.

I hope MS fixes this, or at least considers this a problem, as it is.

    Hi Manoj sinsinwar,

Is this on a desktop or laptop/tablet?

    Try

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

    Find Windows Explorer

    Right‑click it, Restart

Also in PowerShell admin, use sfc /scannow and then try DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth after that reboot and see if it works.

Have you got 3rd party app that changes the Desktop layout installed?

If the taskbar notification area is not opening when you click on the date in Windows 11, it could be due to the Notifications and Action Center being disabled. This behavior is by design, as the calendar is part of the Notifications and Action Center. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check if the Notifications and Action Center is disabled:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
      • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar or Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
      • Look for the Remove Notifications and Action Center policy. If it is set to Enabled, the notification center is disabled.
    2. External Monitor Scenario: If you are using an external monitor, ensure that the display settings are configured correctly. The taskbar calendar will only pop up on the primary monitor if you have set it to extend displays.

If these settings are correct and the issue persists, consider checking for any updates or system issues that may be affecting the functionality.
