Subject  : Request for Assistance to Regain Access to Microsoft Tenant Due to Lost Authenticator Access

Dear Sir/Madam,

Warm greetings from the [Moderator note: personal info removed].

The [Moderator note: personal info removed] is a registered non-profit organization operating in Bangladesh as a National NGO. In compliance with all required procedures, [Moderator note: personal info removed]obtained a Microsoft tenant domain approximately two years ago. The registered domain name is fcjyf.onmicrosoft.com, and the designated global administrator email address is [[Moderator note: personal info removed]@fcjyf.onmicrosoft.com]. Using this administrative account, we created several additional user accounts for organizational operations.

We have been utilizing Microsoft services extensively and effectively for office operations and community services, including secure data backup, document collaboration, sharing of project-related photos and videos, and other essential IT resources.

For enhanced security, two-factor authentication (2FA) was enabled for all user accounts under our tenant, utilizing the Microsoft Authenticator mobile application. Unfortunately, the Authenticator app was recently uninstalled inadvertently from the designated mobile device, and upon reinstalling the application, we are no longer receiving authentication codes.

Although we retain the correct passwords for all accounts, access is currently blocked due to the mandatory authentication code requirement, which we are unable to retrieve.

In this situation, we respectfully request your kind technical support and guidance on how we may recover access to our tenant and user accounts, reset or reconfigure the multi-factor authentication settings, and restore normal operations.

We would be deeply grateful for your prompt assistance, as uninterrupted access to our systems is critical for our ongoing humanitarian and development activities.

Thank you very much for your time, support, and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,

[Moderator note: personal info removed]

Please note that this forum is a public platform, so we’ve adjusted your question to hide your organization’s domain name. For future posts, kindly avoid sharing any personal or organizational details to help protect your data.

    Hello @Executive Director

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Community!

Thank you for reaching out, and I truly appreciate the detailed information you provided. I understand how critical uninterrupted access is for the Father Charles J. Young Foundation’s ongoing work, and I’m here to help you restore access to your Microsoft 365 tenant as quickly as possible.

Based on the situation you described, all users — including your Global Administrator — are currently locked out due to the loss of access to the Microsoft Authenticator app used for MFA. Even though the passwords are still available, the accounts cannot complete the second factor for sign‑in.

To proceed with restoring access, please follow the steps below to contact Microsoft for Nonprofits Support directly:

    1. Visit the Microsoft for Contact Us page
    2. Scroll down to the “How can we help?” section.
    3. In the text field, enter your issue — for example, “sign‑in”.
    4. Click Get Help.

You will see a list of recommended solutions. Please try them if they appear relevant.

If the suggestions do not resolve your issue:

    1. Scroll down to the Get more help section.
    2. Fill out the support request form.

When completing the form, kindly ensure you clearly state the following details:

    • You are the legal representative (e.g., President) of the nonprofit organization.
    • Your Global Administrator account is locked due to MFA.
    • You are unable to complete the standard account recovery procedures.
    • You can provide official legal documents confirming your authority to act on behalf of the organization.

    After completing the form:

    1. Check the “I’m not a robot” box.
    2. Select Submit request.

Once Microsoft Support receives the request, they will review your information and assist with verifying ownership and regaining access to your tenant.

If you experience any issues accessing the Contact Us page, submitting the form, or if you do not receive a confirmation after submission, please inform me immediately.

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.

To regain access to your Microsoft tenant after losing access to the Microsoft Authenticator app, you can follow these steps:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you are the global administrator, you can reach out to Microsoft Data Protection Support by phone. Explain your situation clearly, mentioning that you are unable to access your account due to the loss of the Authenticator app and that you are the only admin. You can find the customer service phone numbers on the Microsoft Support website.
    2. Identity Verification: Be prepared to verify your identity and ownership of the organization. This may involve providing official business documentation or domain ownership verification.
    3. Temporary Account Option: If you cannot reach a live agent, consider creating a temporary account (trial tenant) to submit a support ticket. This will allow you to access the admin console of the new tenant and request assistance from the Data Protection team regarding your original tenant.
    4. Follow Recovery Prompts: If you can access the admin portal, try signing in with any previously used email account and follow the prompts to request admin access.
    5. Documentation: Provide as much information as possible about your organization, including the registered domain name and the email associated with the global admin account, to facilitate a quicker resolution.

These steps should help you regain access to your tenant and reset or reconfigure your multi-factor authentication settings.
