Zoom Phone Systems to Microsoft Team Phone system migration

I am planning to migrate the Zoom Phone system to Microsoft Teams Phone. As part of this migration, I intend to port phone numbers from Zoom (with Zoom acting as the current carrier) to Microsoft Teams.

I would like to confirm whether porting numbers directly from Zoom to Teams is supported, and to understand the end-to-end porting process, including any prerequisites.

I would like clarity on:

  • Whether any specific Teams Phone licenses are required to initiate or complete number porting

If there are port-out charges or contractual considerations associated with bulk number migration

In total, there are 1,000 phone numbers to be ported. Out of these:

800 numbers will be assigned to users in Microsoft Teams

The remaining 200 numbers will be kept in an unassigned state and allocated only if required in the future

Please confirm:

Whether keeping numbers unassigned in Teams is supported

  • If there are any license or rental charges applicable for unassigned numbersI am planning to migrate the Zoom Phone system to Microsoft Teams Phone. Porting phone numbers from Zoom to Microsoft Teams is supported as part of the migration process to Microsoft Teams Phone. Here are the details regarding your queries:

    1. Teams Phone Licenses: Specific Teams Phone licenses are required to initiate or complete number porting. You will need to ensure that you have the appropriate licenses for the users who will be assigned the ported numbers.
    2. Port-out Charges and Contractual Considerations: It is essential to check with Zoom regarding any potential port-out charges or contractual obligations that may apply when migrating your numbers. These charges can vary based on your agreement with Zoom.
    3. Keeping Numbers Unassigned: Microsoft Teams does support keeping numbers unassigned. You can port the 1,000 phone numbers and assign 800 to users while keeping the remaining 200 in an unassigned state for future allocation.
    4. Charges for Unassigned Numbers: Regarding any license or rental charges applicable for unassigned numbers, it is advisable to consult Microsoft’s licensing policies or your Microsoft representative to clarify if there are any costs associated with holding unassigned numbers.

For a successful porting process, ensure you have all necessary information and documentation ready, and follow the guidelines provided by Microsoft for submitting a port request.
