how to get outlook to index my files and remove other error codes

I have an office 365 account and in excel, am advised there are updates. When I type press for updates, I get an error message 30045-29 (1).

I have tried to follow the guidance to repair microsoft, but there is no repair option on the screen where it says there should be one. Next I tried to uninstall office 365, but then get a different error message: 30045-44 (1).

What next please?

Separately, my emails in outlook used to have been indexed so I could search for keywords etc, but since about October last year, all searches return no results. I have followed the guidance to index the messages, and I got a message to say index completed, but there has been no change.

I've no idea if these issues are related.

thank you

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how frustrating it is to deal with repeated Office error codes such as 30045‑29 and 30045‑44, especially when repairs and uninstalls fail, and at the same time Outlook stops indexing your emails properly. It’s completely reasonable to feel stuck because both issues interrupt your normal work and can appear related even when they come from different causes. I am here to help.

Your second issue with Outlook search not returning results is often caused by incomplete indexing or data file problems. Microsoft Learn notes that Outlook search can fail when indexing is stuck, when Windows Search is not enabled, or when the index needs to be rebuilt.  Even when indexing says "completed," Outlook may still be unable to search if the profile is corrupted or the data file isn’t included in the “locations to index.”

The best way to move forward is to remove Office using Microsoft’s uninstall tool, reinstall a clean copy from your Microsoft account, and then repair Outlook search by checking that Outlook is included in Indexing Options and rebuilding the index again after reinstalling Office.  This usually resolves both the update errors and indexing failures, especially when they stem from deeper installation corruption.

To help narrow down the next steps, may I ask whether you were running Microsoft 365 from a pre‑installed trial on your device, or if you installed it yourself later? This will help determine which uninstall method will work most effectively. Please feel free to follow up so I can guide you step‑by‑step until both the installation errors and Outlook search issues are fully resolved.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

To address the issues you're facing with Outlook and Excel, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Error Codes 30045-29 and 30045-44: These error codes typically indicate issues with the Office installation. Since you mentioned that the repair option is not available, you can try the following:
      • Uninstall Office completely from "Apps & Features" or "Programs and Features". Make sure to delete any remaining folders related to Office after uninstalling.
      • Clean the registry by navigating to the relevant keys and deleting any entries related to Office. Be cautious when editing the registry.
      • Restart your computer after completing these steps and then try reinstalling Office 365.
    2. Indexing Issues in Outlook: If your emails are not being indexed properly, follow these steps:
      • Ensure that the Windows Search service is running. You can check this by typing services.msc in the Run dialog (Win + R) and looking for the Windows Search service. Make sure it is started.
      • If you have previously indexed your messages and it shows as completed but still returns no results, you may need to rebuild the index. To do this:
        • Go to Control Panel > Indexing Options.
        • Click on "Advanced" and then select "Rebuild" under the Troubleshooting section. This can take some time, depending on the number of items.
      • After rebuilding the index, check if the search functionality in Outlook is restored.

These steps should help resolve both the update errors in Excel and the indexing issues in Outlook. If the problems persist, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
