domain release from old tenant

Thank you for your response.

Please note that we do not have access to the previous tenant where the domain tremarcsafety.com is currently linked. The previous administrator account is unknown to us and we are unable to sign in or recover it.

Kindly find our details below:

MODRD (.onmicrosoft.com domain): tremarcosafe.onmicrosoft.com UPN to reset (Admin email account): [[Moderator note: personal info removed]@tremarcosafe.onmicrosoft.com]

Requestor information: Name: [Moderator note: personal info removed] Phone: [Moderator note: personal info removed] Email: [[Moderator note: personal info removed]@tremarcosafe.onmicrosoft.com]

Troubleshooting steps: We verified domain ownership successfully via DNS records. However, activation cannot be completed because the domain is still attached to another tenant. We therefore require Microsoft to release the domain from the old tenant.

This matter is urgent, as we have had no email access since 9 February and our business operations are being affected.

Please proceed with the domain release process or advise if additional verification is required.

Kind regards, [Moderator note: personal info removed]

    Dear Michalis Markou,

Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.     I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience and frustration this issue has caused. Based on the information you shared, it appears that you are currently unable to use your domain or add it to your Microsoft 365 organization, which I understand can be very disruptive, especially when you rely on this domain for your work or services.

Since you are the administrator of your organization, the next step is to escalate this case to Microsoft’s Data Protection team, who specialize in assisting with situations where a domain has been taken or registered by another tenant. They will be able to review the ownership details and guide you through the process of removing the domain from the other organization.

Please note that forum moderators have no control over user accounts or tenants, especially when it comes to logging in to your account, resetting your password, changing your access, etc.

Please submit a new service request from your current tenant by following these steps:

    • Go to the admin center at https://admin.cloud.microsoft
    • On the bottom right side of the page, select Help & support.
      • User's image
    • Selecting "Contact Support". Then, choose contact method: "Phone" or "Email"
      • User's image
    • Enter a description of your issue, confirm your contact number and email address, select your preferred contact method, and then select Contact me. The expected wait time is indicated in the Contact support pane.

Please ensure you prepare all necessary information that proves you are the owner of the domain before contacting Microsoft Support, so they can assist you in removing the domain from the old tenant.

If you have any updates or additional details, please feel free to leave a comment under this post. I’ll be happy to assist further within my scope.

To release a domain from an old tenant when you do not have access to that tenant, you will need to follow Microsoft's identity verification processes. Since you have verified domain ownership via DNS records, you can proceed with the following steps:

    1. Submit a support request to Microsoft 365 support. You can do this by going to the Microsoft 365 support page and selecting the option for issues related to domain registration.
    2. In your support request, clearly state that you are unable to access the previous tenant and provide all necessary details, including your domain ownership verification.
    3. Be prepared to provide any additional verification that Microsoft may require, such as official business documentation or other proof of ownership.

It is important to act quickly, especially since your business operations are being affected. Make sure to include all relevant information in your support request to expedite the process.
