I believe a recent update has crippled my PC. When my PC boots up and I arrive at the main screen and type in my 4 character password, the screen goes blank. I have Windows 11, 24H2, OS Build 26100.7840

I am working around the problem with the CMD prompt which is painful.

Can you propose a solution?

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

Please try each option one at a time, then see if Windows will boot to a stable system.

    .

If there is an option to uninstall the latest update, that will be the best option.

    .

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

    .

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

If your PC is experiencing a blank screen after entering your password, it may be related to a recent update or a compatibility issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Boot into Safe Mode: This will allow you to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. To do this:
      • Restart your PC and as soon as it starts booting, press and hold the power button to force a shutdown. Repeat this two or three times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
      • Select "Advanced options" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Settings" > "Restart". After your PC restarts, select "4" or "F4" to start in Safe Mode.
    2. Uninstall Recent Updates: If the issue started after a specific update, you can uninstall it:
      • While in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
    3. Run System Restore: If you have a restore point created before the issue began, you can restore your system to that state:
      • In Safe Mode, go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts.
    4. Check for Driver Issues: Sometimes, display drivers can cause issues. You can try updating or rolling back your graphics drivers:
      • In Device Manager, expand "Display adapters", right-click your graphics driver, and select "Update driver" or "Roll back driver" if the option is available.
    5. Reset Your PC: If none of the above solutions work, you may need to consider resetting your PC. You can do this while keeping your files:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC and choose the option to keep your files.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the blank screen issue after logging in. If the problem persists, further investigation may be necessary, possibly involving hardware checks or more advanced recovery options.
