Dear Microsoft Support -

We are seeing duplicate measures and duplicate measure folders in Excel when connecting to our Tabular Cube.

Environment:

  1. Compatibility Level: 1600
  2. Excel: Microsoft 365 (Version 2511 Build 16.0.19426.20118) 64-bit

Business users previously accessed the model in Excel without any issues. The duplicate measures began appearing this year, but we are not sure exactly when the issue started. Users are very confused by the duplicate measures that are now showing up.

Power BI connects to the same Tabular model and works fine without any duplicate measures.

Please see the attached screenshots showing before and after.

Is this a known issue? Do you have a hotfix or recommended solution?

Thank you.

I would like to provide you with the following information:

You mentioned that the issue only occurs with Excel, while the connection works normally when using Power BI. Please try the methods below to check whether the issue can be resolved:

Method 1: Remove and reconfigure the connection in Excel Please try deleting the current connection and setting it up again in Excel.

The issue of duplicate measures and measure folders in Excel when connecting to a Tabular Cube can occur due to various reasons, including changes in the model or Excel settings. While the context does not specifically mention a known issue related to duplicate measures in the compatibility level 1600, it is important to ensure that the measures are correctly defined in the Tabular model and that there are no discrepancies in the Excel connection settings.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that both Excel and the Tabular model are updated to the latest versions, as updates can sometimes resolve unexpected behavior.
    2. Review Measure Definitions: Verify that the measures in the Tabular model do not have duplicates in their definitions. Sometimes, measures can be unintentionally duplicated in the model itself.
    3. Recreate the Connection: Try removing the existing connection to the Tabular model in Excel and then reconnecting to see if that resolves the duplication issue.
    4. Consult Documentation: Look for any known issues or guidance in the official Microsoft documentation related to Excel and Tabular models.

If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance, as they may have more specific insights or solutions for your environment.
