I have two email addresses ending in msn.com

The first email address appears to be my primary email address, the second email address I do get emails in my primary email box, but when it is used for certain companies that require multi-factor authentication, I do not receive those codes on this secondary email address, sometimes until hours or days later. I need to be able to get this secondary email address to be able to accept that info and send those codes like my primary email address does.

     Hello CAROLYN BOLLIG

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A.

I understand how important it is to receive multi-factor authentication (MFA) codes promptly, and I can see how delays to your secondary alias can be frustrating.

Although Microsoft can send verification emails to both primary and secondary aliases, delivery speed may differ. Delays are often caused by factors such as spam filtering, temporary security checks, or traffic conditions related to the sender’s region or service.

As a workaround, you can try setting your secondary alias as the primary alias, as primary addresses typically receive authentication emails more reliably and without delay.

    To change your primary alias:

    1. Go to: https://account.microsoft.com
    2. Sign in with your current primary email address.
    3. Select Your info at the top of the page.
    4. Click Manage how you sign in to Microsoft
    5. Under Account aliases, locate your secondary email address.
    6. Click Make primary next to it and follow the verification steps.

    After making this change:

    • Your selected alias will become the primary address for sign-in and verification.
    • MFA/OTP codes should be delivered more quickly.
    • Your previous primary address will remain as a secondary alias, and you can still send and receive emails from it.

Once completed, please test by requesting a new verification code from one of the affected services to confirm that delivery is now timely.

If the issue persists, feel free to reply here and I’ll be happy to assist further.
