I have imported a calendar via ics and it has connected to my main calendar. This is causing syncing issues with other apps that I use and I cant find a way to remove this, does anyone know? I have read that it is a glitch with outlook but not how to fix it

    Hi @Luke Dickson,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how inconvenient this situation can be, especially when an iCalendar ends up merging into your main calendar and then begins causing synchronization issues across other apps.

The best way to remove the calendar depends on how it was originally added, as Outlook supports two different behaviors: subscribing to a calendar versus importing/uploading one.

1/ If you subscribed to an iCal feed (using a web link):

Subscribed calendars usually appear as a separate calendar in the left pane under My calendars or Other calendars. In this case, you can simply hide it by unchecking it, or remove/delete that calendar entirely from the list. Microsoft also notes that while you can delete calendars you added, the primary calendar itself cannot be deleted. You can review this here: Delete a calendar in Outlook.

2/ If you imported or uploaded an .ICS file into your main calendar:

This appears to be the scenario you described, where the events are now “connected to your main calendar.” When an iCalendar file is imported, the events are copied directly into the selected calendar. Unfortunately, Outlook does not provide a single option to undo the import or remove all items from that file afterward. As confirmed in Microsoft Q&A discussions, once events are merged into the main calendar, especially in Outlook on the web, there is no built‑in bulk “undo” option, so the events must be removed manually. You can see a related discussion here: How do I delete an uploaded ICS file on the web outlook calandar?.

If a large number of events were imported and you need a more efficient way to remove them, a commonly recommended approach is to use Classic (Legacy) Outlook. By switching the Calendar to List View, you can multi‑select the imported items and delete them in bulk rather than one by one. A Microsoft Q&A moderator outlines this “List View > select > delete” method for cases where items were imported into the main calendar. Before doing this, it’s strongly recommended to export or back up your calendar to avoid accidentally deleting legitimate events. More details are available here: How to remove a calendar subscription that is embedded in my outlook "My Calendar.

To help prevent this from happening again, when adding an .ICS file in Outlook on the web, you’re prompted to choose which calendar the file is imported into. Creating a temporary or separate calendar for imports makes it much easier to delete the entire calendar later if needed.

You may also find Microsoft’s guidance helpful here: Import or subscribe to a calendar in Outlook.com or Outlook on the web , which explains the difference between subscribing to a calendar and uploading/importing one.

I hope this helps clarify the situation and move things forward. Please feel free to let us know how it goes, or if you need any further assistance.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
