Hi @Margaret
Thank you for posting your question in the Q&A Forum.
I completely understand the frustration, the New Outlook for Mac can be a bit tricky when it comes to managing contacts, especially with an education account.
Since you mentioned you can edit but not delete, here are a few specific tips for the Mac version:
- The Keyboard Shortcut: Instead of just clicking, try selecting the contact and pressing Command + Delete on your keyboard. This often bypasses menu issues on macOS.
- Check for "Read-Only" Status: Since you are using an education account, some contacts might be part of your school’s Global Address List. If so, you won’t be able to delete them, because they are managed by your institution’s IT department.
- Clear the Auto-Complete Cache: If the email address only pops up when you start typing a new message, it’s likely an "Auto-Complete" suggestion. Just type the name in a new email and click the X icon next to the address to remove it for good.
If the "Delete" option is still greyed out, it’s most likely because the contact is read-only from your school directory. Otherwise, the steps above should allow you to remove it.
I hope this clears things up! Please let me know if you have any questions or need further guidance.
