Windows 11 home not installed?

I bought a laptop with windows 11 pro on it and then when I look at the bottom right corner it says that I need to activate windows. When I go to the activate settings window it has me troubleshoot and brings me to a phone and website that then doesn't work. I just need to activate windows but my laptop came with it.

Can you please type cmd in the search on the taskbar and hit enter to launch command prompt, then run the following command:

slmgr /dlv

All I see is a generic key.

Did it initially work and then stop working out of the blue, or it never worked since you got it?

Also, Launch Powershell (note, it is not Command Prompt, but Powershell), and run this code to see if you have an OEM license on the motherboard. Don't share the key. A yes or no answer will do.

It was always like this since I got the laptop late last week. The code in powershell gave me a product key, I'm not sure how to tell if it is oem or not.

Ok if it returns a key it for sure is oem. That command only reads the key from motherboard.

I cannot tell if you should be on pro as the pro key is generic. But since you have OEM. Do a clean install. The clean install will automatically use the oem key and automatically install the edition the key is for whether it’s pro or home.

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

Now these steps will be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.

So once I did this I have this. Do I need to just straight up buy a new license atp? Im not sure what to do.

I don't think you were following my instruction. You need to do a clean install and I shared the instruction to do that earlier.

Your device doesn't show any sign of Pro license, but your device does show a solid evidence of an OEM license (that's what the powershell command was for), which is likely for the Home edition. Do a clean install and it will automatically install Home and it would also automatically activate.

I did the clean install two times now and i am still getting the same issue

When you did the clean install, did you recall having to select Windows edition?

Did you delete all partitions?

when it had me select the version it was locked onto windows 11 and yes i deleted all the partitions. Do I just need to buy a new key? I think that the windows 11 that came with my laptop isnt valid based on what I see but im no expert

Since you have the installation flash drive already made, please modify that flash drive to force it to install Home edition.

On your computer, launch the Notepad app and place the following in the file:

[EditionID] Core [Channel] Retail

Then choose Save As and choose file type "all ..", then save it as EI.cfg in the file name field. And then place this file in your flash drive under the \Sources folder.

Then new another file in Notepad, and put this in the file:

[PID] Value=YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

And now save it as PID.txt file. No need to do the Save as this time. Put in in the same folder.

Then boot it from BIOS again, and run another run of clean install. It should let you choose Home edition this time.

This is not normal. Who did you buy this computer from? Did you buy it brand new?

Can you please type msinfo32.exe in the search on the taskbar and hit enter, then share a screenshot of the pop up please.

I followed these instructions to exactly what you said and I still am getting the same error as before. Is there any other things I can do?
