    Hi Loretta Giddings,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

Did you install necessary drivers for your computer? If you did not do so, please navigate to the support page, download and install the drivers.

If you have trouble finding them, please provide me your computer specifications and the Windows version you're using.

    Thank you for your time.

Let's check some additional information to help resolve the issue:

    1. What is the make and model of your device?

In the search bar, type MSINFO32 and hit Enter.

Please share a screenshot of that window.

    1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.

Click View > Show Hidden devices

Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.

Take a screenshot and share it here.

If you're experiencing no sound on your computer and the sound key is grayed out, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Audio Drivers: Open Device Manager and ensure that your audio drivers are installed and functioning properly. If necessary, visit your device manufacturer's website to download the latest audio drivers for your system.
    2. Update or Roll Back Drivers: If you have recently updated your audio drivers, consider rolling back to a previous version to see if that resolves the issue. Alternatively, you can try updating them to the latest version.
    3. Run Audio Troubleshooter: Use the built-in troubleshooter by going to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and running the Playing Audio troubleshooter. This may help identify and fix the problem.
    4. Check Sound Settings: Make sure that your audio output device is correctly set in the sound settings. Sometimes, the system may not recognize the default audio output device.

Since you mentioned that you do not have headphones or an external speaker, ensure that your computer's internal speakers are functioning and not muted. If the issue persists, you may need to consider connecting an external audio device for further testing.
