Minecraft Giftcards Not Adding Minecoins

I have two Minecraft 3500 ($29.95AUD) Minecoin gift cards. I have redeemed them while logged into my Minecraft/Microsoft account. They do not add to the balance of my mine coins. The second one shows an error after I redeem it saying that the user already owns it. The error is "PUR-UserAlreadyOwnsContent [Moderator note: personal info removed]

All I want are the mine coins that I received as a gift. There is no support phone number. There is no help. I am in a black hole of Microsoft hell. This is one of the worst user experiences of my life.

    Hi @M R,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I’m sorry you’re running into this. Based on the error message and behavior you described, this appears to be a Minecoins entitlement issue, not a problem with your account or the gift cards themselves.

When a Minecoins gift card is redeemed, Microsoft creates a digital entitlement on the Microsoft account and then credits the Minecoins balance in Minecraft. In some cases, the entitlement is created but the Minecoins are not actually added to the balance. When this happens, any additional redemption attempts may fail with the error “PUR‑UserAlreadyOwnsContent”, even though the Minecoins never appeared.

Unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed by reinstalling Minecraft, restarting devices, or clearing cache, because the issue occurs on the backend after redemption.

To confirm the issue, you can check:

    • Microsoft account > Payment & billing > Order history and verify that the Minecoins redemption appears there.
    • Minecraft Marketplace and confirm that the Minecoins balance did not increase (even after signing in on another device).

If the redemption shows in Order History but the Minecoins balance is still missing, the only way to resolve this is to contact Xbox Support for billing and digital content so an agent can manually correct the entitlement or credit the Minecoins.

    Please note that:

    • Retailers cannot replace the card once it has been redeemed.
    • Minecraft gameplay support cannot fix Minecoins entitlements.
    • Minecoins cannot be self‑refunded once redeemed.

Recommended contact path (to avoid loops):

    1. Go to Xbox Support > Contact Us
    2. Choose Subscriptions & billing
    3. Select an option related to redeemed code / missing content
    4. Request chat with a live agent.

When contacting support, clearly explain that you redeemed Minecraft Minecoins gift cards on your Microsoft account, but the Minecoins were never credited to your balance. After the initial redemption, any further attempts now return the error PUR‑UserAlreadyOwnsContent, even though the Minecoins are still missing. Ask the agent to check the transaction and apply a manual entitlement correction or Minecoins credit to your account, as this issue cannot be resolved through local troubleshooting and requires a billing or digital content fix on the backend.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction and saves you from further run‑around.
