Facing an issue in Microsoft OneNote between iPad and PC. The handwritten notes I write on iPad get misplaced or not aligned properly when I open them on PC. Tried everything, still not working. Any solution?

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your testing. I can truly understand how confusing it is when your notes are moving around.

This can happen when a OneNote page contains a mix of typed text and ink (handwriting or sketches), the layout can appear different on another device because ink and text containers are rendered differently across clients and screen sizes. OneNote also does not “lock” ink and text together as a single grouped layout element, so even small text reflow can make ink look shifted relative to the text.

To move forward, I would recommend trying the following steps to convert from ink to text on Windows so that the handwriting becomes normal typed text that is easier to read, edit, and share:

Open the page in OneNote on Windows.
Select the Draw tab.
Select Lasso Select.

Drag a selection over the handwriting you want to convert.
On the Draw tab, select Ink to Text.

It’s quite tough right now. I have notes in a larger page size with drawn ink, and everything is completely misplaced. It was perfectly aligned about 20 days ago before the holidays, but now when I came back, nothing is correctly aligned.

I’ve tried everything - removed the account, uninstalled OneNote on both iPad and PC, shared the page to a different email, and even checked it on the web version. But it’s still showing the same issue everywhere.

Is there any way to fix this? I really need those notes and i needed to work on those notes for very long time.

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear that your file which has been formatted correctly, has been aligned incorrectly recently.

To restore your note to the previous version, I would recommend using the Restore your OneDrive functionality. Please follow these steps:

Sign into the OneDrive website.

At the top of the page, select Settings > Restore your OneDrive.

On the Restore your OneDrive page, select Custom date and time. Then select the date that your note has been formatted correctly.

Select the last activity related to the OneNote file and select Restore.

I think this is a bug which was introduced in OneNote for iOS 16.106. I've seen various reports of similar issues.

While I would love to resolve this directly, my current scope and resource limitations do not allow access to the internal systems needed for this type of troubleshooting. The best next step is to have your IT administrator submit a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Once the ticket is created, a technical support engineer will be able to initiate a secure remote session, review backend configurations, run diagnostics, and escalate the case to specialized engineering teams if necessary. These teams are equipped to perform advanced troubleshooting and provide targeted solutions.

absolute nonsense, i did as u said but u never gave a warning on my datas will be deleted if its restored and i didnt think and did the methods and nearly my onedrive is fukced and i did everything and most of my datas are deleted in recycle and bin and i have waited now nearly 1 hour for restoring from bin for 150 items and now its not backing up and i want my datas from the bin, please dont guide me how to do as i did all the possible ways from yesterday till now...i want a solution please and even after creating a new microsoft acc in onenote i still face the problem of alignment...

Thank you for the update. I want to clarify this clearly. Steps I provided in my earlier response only meant to restore your OneDrive storage back to a point in time. All of my previous responses didn't provide any instructions to uninstall apps, remove accounts, or delete anything.

What you are seeing can happen because of how OneDrive handles files created after the restore point. Microsoft states that when you restore to a previous time, any files or folders created after the restore point date are moved to your OneDrive Recycle Bin. That means they can look “missing” in your folders right after the restore, but they are not deleted. You can restore those items back from the Recycle Bin.

Next steps to recover the newer items:

Sign in to OneDrive on the web.

Open Recycle Bin.

Sort or search for items created or updated after the restore point date.

Select the items and choose Restore.

If you have already completed the OneDrive restore and then restored the newer items from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, but the issue still persists, the best next step is to reach out to your organization's IT admin to create a support ticket with Microsoft Support through the Microsoft 365 admin center. A support engineer can review backend logs and diagnostics and escalate if needed.
