Hi there,

Today I attempted to boot up the Minecraft Launcher but received the error message saying, "we couldn't sign you into your Xbox Live account." Then it gave the error code 0x80004005.

I updated my computer and restarted it but that did not fix the issue. I deleted and reinstalled the Minecraft launcher, but that also did not resolve it. Is there an outage with Xbox live sign-ins? How do I resolve this issue?

    Hello Caleb Reeve,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

As I checked, recently there are no outage with the Xbox sign-in. Before we proceed, I'd like to ask a few questions to better understand the situation.

    • May I know if there are any issues with other Microsoft Apps or Services?
    • Can you log in with another account?

In the meantime, please try this quick solution.

    • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time.
    • Make sure "Set time automatically" and "Set time zone automatically" is enabled.
    • Select "Sync now" to sync the clock.
    • Restart the apps and try again.

    I'm waiting for your reply.

The error code 0x80004005 typically indicates a general failure in signing into Xbox Live, which can be caused by various issues, including outdated services or problems with your account. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Ensure your Gaming Services are up to date: Sometimes, the Gaming Services may not be updated, which can lead to sign-in issues. You can check and update them by following these steps:
      • Launch PowerShell as an administrator and enter "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers"
      • In the same PowerShell window, enter "start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN" to reinstall the Gaming Services.
    2. Check the Xbox App: Make sure the Xbox App is updated. If your PC has been in a dev sandbox for a long time, it may not be up to date. Switch to the RETAIL sandbox and ensure the Xbox App is installed and updated.
    3. Sign in Issues: If you are experiencing issues signing into the Minecraft website, it may be a temporary server issue. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser to see if that resolves the problem.
    4. Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve underlying issues that may be causing the error.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check the status of Xbox Live services to ensure there are no outages affecting sign-ins.
