Install in progress

I just bought a new PC with Windows 11. I successfully installed Microsoft Office. My problem is when I try to install any other software (i.e. Turbo Tax or Family Tree Maker). It keeps giving an error message that another install is in progress and I can't install anything until that is complete. There shouldn't be any install in progress. How can I fix this?

    Hi Brenda,

    It must be Windows Installer.

    In the Windows search,

Type cmd, right-click it, and choose Run as Administrator.

    Execute the command:

    sfc /scannow

Let me know if any files are corrupted which should be told by this command.

    #2:

    1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter
    2. Locate Windows Installer
    3. Right-click it
    4. Select Restart
    5. If Restart is greyed out, select Stop, wait a few seconds, then select Start

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Otherwise, please take a moment to rate the answer. Wishing you good luck!4

To resolve the issue of receiving an error message stating that another installation is in progress, you can try the following steps:

    1. Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can clear any stuck installation processes.
    2. Check for Pending Installations: Make sure there are no other installations running in the background. You can check this in the Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) under the "Processes" tab. Look for any installer processes and end them if necessary.
    3. Use the Windows Installer Troubleshooter: Microsoft provides a tool that can help fix problems with installing or uninstalling programs. You can download the troubleshooter from the Microsoft website and run it to see if it resolves the issue.
    4. Clear the Installer Cache: Sometimes, the Windows Installer cache can cause issues. You can try clearing it by running the following command in the Command Prompt (as administrator): msiexec /unregister followed by msiexec /regserver.
    5. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated, as updates can fix bugs and improve system stability.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider contacting Microsoft Support for further assistance.
