I have purchased a Microsoft business subscription but when I try to login it does not acknowledge I have one and keeps asking me to purchase a personal subscription. Also when I use the authenticator app for my onmicrosoft.com account I never receive the verification number or anything.

    Dear @Bon Buescher,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand that you purchased a Microsoft 365 Business subscription, but when you try to sign in, Microsoft keeps asking you to buy a personal subscription. I also understand that when you try to sign in using your onmicrosoft.com business account, the Microsoft Authenticator app does not send a verification number or approval.

Typically, Microsoft 365 Business subscriptions only work with work or business accounts, such as ******@company.onmicrosoft.com. They do not work with personal Microsoft accounts like Outlook.com or Hotmail.

If the sign‑in does not finish because the Authenticator approval is not received, Microsoft cannot confirm your business account. When that happens, the system may show options to buy a personal subscription instead.

To better assistance, could you please confirm following information:

Which page are you signing in to?

Do you see any message during sign‑in, or does it just wait for approval?

Is this the first time you are signing in to this business account?

Is the business account already added inside the Microsoft Authenticator app?

Are notifications enabled for the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone?

Is your phone connected to the internet (Wi‑Fi or mobile data) when you sign in?

Is your phone date and time set to automatic?

In the meantime, I recommend some quick check below:

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and make sure notifications are allowed.

Make sure your phone’s date and time are set to automatic.

Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, then try signing in again.

Close and reopen the Authenticator app before you sign in.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

It seems you are experiencing issues with logging into your Microsoft business account and receiving verification codes from the Authenticator app. Here are some steps you can take to resolve these issues:

    1. Verify Account Status: Ensure that your Microsoft business subscription is active. You can check this by logging into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with your admin credentials. If it does not acknowledge your subscription, there may be an issue with your account setup.
    2. Authenticator App Issues: If you are not receiving verification codes, it could be due to several reasons:
      • Ensure that your phone has a stable internet connection.
      • Check if notifications for the Authenticator app are enabled in your phone settings.
      • If you have recently changed your phone, you may need to set up the Authenticator app again. This typically requires access to your account, which can be challenging if you are locked out.
    3. Contact Support: Since you are facing difficulties with account access, consider contacting Microsoft support. If you are the sole administrator, you can reach out to the Microsoft Data Protection team for assistance in regaining access to your account. You may need to call their customer service hotline and follow the prompts to report your issue.
    4. Alternative Access: If you cannot reach support, you might consider creating a trial Microsoft 365 tenant. This will allow you to log in and submit a support ticket regarding your original account.

These steps should help you address the issues with your Microsoft business account and the Authenticator app. If you continue to face problems, persistent contact with Microsoft support will be necessary to resolve your account access issues.
