Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
I understand how frustrating it is when it seems like both the microphone and speaker are not working for you. However, to better help with the situation, I'd like to first ask for a few key details so we can clear up everything before giving fixes:
- Which version of Windows are you using? Windows 10 or Windows 11?
- Is this a laptop with built‑in mic/speakers or desktop with external ones?
- Did this issue start suddenly, after a system change, or always exist?
- Does the mic/speaker fail:
- Only in the AI tool? Is it browser or application?
- Or everywhere (Voice Recorder, Sound test, calls)?
- If possible, it'd be helpful if you can open the Voice Recorder app (Windows built-in) > try to record for 5 seconds and check the results.
I hope to hear back from you soon and we can look into it! In the meantime, I have some basic troubleshooting steps you can check out:
1 - Make sure Windows detects your audio devices
- Press Win + R > type
mmsys.cpl> press Enter - In the Recording tab > select your microphone
- Choose as Default (right corner) > click Apply
- If it said Disabled > right-click > Enable it.
- Do the same in Recording tab for your speaker.
- If it's hard to analyze, tell me exactly what you see or share a screenshot!
2 - App permission
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
- Make sure Let apps access your microphone is ON
- Make sure it's also ON for the AI tool or browser
The more exact details on the issue you can give, the more suitable the solutions can be. Answer all the questions and checks above so I can help you!
