Hi Kylie pickett,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble signing in to your HP laptop for school. Before we go further, could you clarify whether the laptop is school-issued or personally owned? Is there already an account on the PC, or it's newly set up?
If it’s the former, organizational devices are often restricted (by the school) and may already be managed or locked to a different account. On the Windows sign‑in screen, check if there’s any other account with school email (e.g @school.edu)
1 - If Windows says “This account can’t be used to sign in”
- Log into Windows using any existing account that works
- Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school
- Disconnect the account if it was added.
- Restart PC > Access work or school > Connect.
- Choose NO if asked Allow my organization to manage this device
2 - Check the Microsoft account
- On another device (e.g phone) > sign into [account.microsoft.com
- Make sure that the credentials are correct > try again on PC
- If the issue persists, on sign-in screen > click I forgot my password.
- Complete verification and reset the password > Sign-in again.
The more description on the issue you can give, the more suitable the solutions can be. Let me know if you had any details you would like to add!
