I changed laptops to a DELL unit and I cannot display my monitor to an external monitor

I used to have a Lenovo unit, working fine just extending or duplicating displays. However, with my new DELL I cannot see the display on my external monitor.

I can see the mousse pointer in the monitor but not the image itself, which seems odd to me and my colleagues trying to help me.

I've checked Lenovo's display set up and seem the same as the DELL, same ticks and same options marked on both laptops. Any ideas?

Thank you, Elena

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with your external monitor not displaying the image correctly on your new DELL laptop. Since you can see the mouse pointer but not the image, this could be related to the display settings or the way the external monitor is being recognized by the system.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check Display Settings: Use the Windows logo key + P keyboard shortcut to cycle through the display modes (PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only) and see if changing the mode helps.
    2. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that the graphics drivers on your DELL laptop are up to date. You can do this through the Device Manager or by visiting the DELL support website.
    3. Check Monitor Connection: Make sure that the external monitor is properly connected to the laptop and powered on. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause display issues.
    4. Resolution Settings: Check the resolution settings for the external monitor in the Display Settings. Sometimes, setting a compatible resolution can resolve display issues.
    5. Force Detection: In Display Settings, click the Detect button to see if Windows recognizes the external monitor correctly.
    6. Try Different Ports/Cables: If possible, try using a different port or cable to connect the monitor to the laptop. Sometimes, specific ports may have issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be helpful to refer to specific troubleshooting articles related to display configurations on Windows 10 or the DELL support documentation for further assistance.
