Storage account capacity incorrect

For several months now, our main storage account has been increasing in billing without the capacity really growing. I was able to run a powershell script to report the size of all of our containers and it came to 3.55 TB. However, azure is reporting between 13 and 17 TB.

Back in Jaunuary, I also received an email from Azure as follows but I have yet to see any credits:
We recently discovered a billing error that caused customers to be overcharged for the new Geo Priority Replication feature in Azure Blob Storage, regardless of whether it was used.

As a result, you may have been incorrectly billed for the month of October and part of November 2025.

The error has since been resolved. If you were accidentally billed for the feature, the charges will be credited back to you as soon as possible. No action is required on your part.

Correct billing for the Geo Priority Replication feature went into effect on 1 January 2026.

It seems you are experiencing discrepancies between the reported storage capacity of your Azure Storage account and the actual usage. There are several factors that can contribute to this issue:

    1. Billing Factors: Azure Storage billing is based on various factors including region, account type, access tier, redundancy, and transactions. If there are any changes in these factors or if there are additional transactions that are not accounted for, it could lead to unexpected billing increases.
    2. Geo Priority Replication: The email you received indicates a billing error related to the Geo Priority Replication feature. If this feature was enabled on your account, it may have contributed to the increased billing, even if you were not using it. The resolution of this billing error and the promised credits may take some time to reflect in your account.
    3. Data Egress Charges: If there are any data transfers out of your Azure region, you may incur additional charges. This could happen if applications outside of your region access your data.
    4. Monitoring and Reporting: It's important to regularly monitor your storage account usage and billing through Azure's Cost Management tools. You can analyze and optimize your costs using these tools to get a clearer picture of your spending.

If the billing discrepancies persist, it may be beneficial to contact Azure support for a detailed investigation into your account's billing history and any potential errors that may still be affecting your charges.
