Clarification on Claude Sonnet 4.6 Availability in Azure Foundry vs Azure Marketplace

I wanted to clarify whether Claude Sonnet 4.6 is available directly through Azure Foundry or only via the Azure Marketplace.

I noticed during deployment that it shows Azure Marketplace terms, and since Marketplace deployments may include additional charges or different billing terms, I want to confirm the correct deployment path. Our preference is to use it via Azure Foundry (if available) to avoid any extra Marketplace-related charges.

Could you please confirm the recommended approach?WhatsApp Image 2026-02-18 at 6.25.07 PM

    Hi Mitul

Claude Sonnet 4.6 is available directly in Azure AI Foundry as a first‑class Foundry model. You deploy it from the Foundry model catalog (alongside GPT, DeepSeek, Cohere, etc.) into a Foundry resource and consume it using Foundry APIs, SDKs, agents, and governance features. There is no separate or alternate “non‑Foundry” deployment path for Claude Sonnet 4.6 on Azure.

Although you deploy Claude Sonnet 4.6 through Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft commercially resells Anthropic models via Azure Marketplace. As a result of this commercial arrangement, Azure displays Azure Marketplace terms during deployment. This is expected behavior and does not indicate that you are deploying a Marketplace VM, SaaS application, or any external service.

    Billing and charges clarification:

There is no additional Marketplace surcharge for using Claude Sonnet 4.6 in Foundry. Usage is billed only on a per‑token basis using Anthropic’s standard pricing, and the charges appear on your regular Azure invoice. The costs count toward your Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC), and there is no separate Anthropic contract or external billing.

Claude Sonnet 4.6 from Azure AI Foundry, accept the Azure Marketplace terms during deployment, and consume the model via Foundry endpoints, agents, and SDKs. There is no alternative Foundry deployment path that avoids Marketplace terms for Claude models today.

Note:Claude Sonnet 4.6 is available in Azure AI Foundry, Marketplace terms are mandatory but expected, billing remains purely usage‑based on Azure with no extra Marketplace fees, and using Foundry is already the correct and preferred deployment model.

I Hope this helps. Do let me know if you have any further queries.

    Thank you!
