I keep getting the error code 15, 22, 1001 when trying to sync my data on Edge browser. Because of this I am unable to open my Microsoft Home and Student software. I tried using Copilot but to no avail.

    Hi John Dodd,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

When Microsoft Edge shows error codes 15, 22, or 1001, it usually means the browser is having trouble syncing your Microsoft account on this device. Because Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Store, and Microsoft Home & Student all rely on the same sign‑in services, this can also prevent Office apps from opening correctly.

Here are some possible troubleshooting steps that you can use to refresh the local sign‑in and system components on Windows:

    1, Refresh Microsoft Store components

    • Press Windows + R, type wsreset.exe
    • Press Enter and wait for Microsoft Store to open automatically

2, Make sure Windows is fully up to date

    • Open Settings > Windows Update
    • Choose Check for updates and install anything available

3, Check time, region, and security settings

    • Go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time
    • Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically
    • Confirm your Region is correct
    • Press Windows + R, type inetcpl.cpl, press Enter
    • On the Advanced tab, ensure TLS 1.2 (and 1.3 if shown) is enabled, then select OK

4, Sign out and back into Microsoft Edge

    • Open Microsoft Edge
    • Select your profile picture
    • Choose Sign out
    • Close Edge completely, reopen it, and sign in again

5, Open Microsoft Home & Student

    • Open Word or Excel from the Start menu
    • Sign in if prompted and check whether the app opens normally

If Edge still shows the same error codes or Office won’t open after these steps, the account may need a secure refresh on the service side. In that case, Microsoft Support can help complete this safely.

The error codes 15, 22, and 1001 you are encountering while trying to sync data on the Microsoft Edge browser may indicate issues related to the sync service. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve these issues:

    1. Check Your Account: Ensure you are signed in with a valid Microsoft account that has the necessary permissions for syncing.
    2. Verify Subscription: Make sure your Microsoft 365 or Azure subscription is valid and supports sync features. You can check this in your Office 365 or Microsoft 365 admin portal.
    3. Update Edge: Ensure you are using the latest version of Microsoft Edge. Sync features are supported in version 77 or later.
    4. Resync Data: Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync and select Re-sync data to this device. If the problem persists, try the option for Reset sync.
    5. Check Sync Status: Visit edge://sync-internals/ to check the sync status and any errors reported under the Type info section.
    6. Network Issues: Ensure that your network allows access to the necessary Microsoft Edge sync service endpoints. If there are firewall restrictions, you may need to adjust them.
    7. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Edge support for further assistance.

These steps should help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the sync issues you are facing with Microsoft Edge.
