I can't connect my Acer monitor (S220Hql) to my new all in one PC.

The PC has a 9-pin VGA male connector and the monitor a 15-pin Female connector, I have managed to connect these but the PC does not detect the monitor in the multiple display system setting.

Any ideas, too ambitious or should i get a different monitor

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

The "9-pin VGA male connector" you're referring to may actually be a DB-9 port, not a video output. The DB9 port is typically used for serial communication.

According to the monitor's specifications, it includes a DVI‑D input. If your all‑in‑one PC provides an HDMI output, you can connect the two using an HDMI‑to‑DVI adapter or cable, which should allow the monitor to work properly.

You may need to install or update your computer's graphics driver. You should be able to find the latest driver in the support section of the computer manufacturer's website. If you can't find it, please share a screenshot of your system information, and I'll help you.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

To connect your Acer monitor (S220Hql) to your all-in-one PC with a VGA connection, ensure that the following steps are followed:

    1. Check Connections: Make sure the VGA cable is securely connected to both the all-in-one PC and the monitor. Since the PC has a 9-pin VGA male connector and the monitor has a 15-pin female connector, ensure that you are using a compatible VGA cable that fits both connectors correctly.
    2. Power On: Ensure that both the monitor and the PC are powered on. Sometimes, the monitor may not be detected if it is turned off.
    3. Display Settings: After connecting, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings". Look for the option to detect multiple displays. If the monitor is not detected automatically, click on the "Detect" button.
    4. Graphics Driver: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the Device Manager in Windows.
    5. Resolution Settings: Sometimes, the resolution settings may not be compatible with the monitor. Try adjusting the resolution settings in the Display settings to see if that helps in detecting the monitor.
    6. Test with Another Device: If possible, test the monitor with another device to ensure that the monitor is functioning correctly. This will help determine if the issue lies with the monitor or the PC.

If after trying all these steps the monitor is still not detected, it may be worth considering a different monitor that is known to be compatible with your all-in-one PC.
