Hi Carol holmes,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating it is when Microsoft Edge appears to open but the browser window doesn’t show on your screen.
Please try the steps below in order:
Step 1: Bring the Edge window back onto the screen
Sometimes Edge opens off‑screen, especially after display or resolution changes.
- Click the Microsoft Edge icon on your taskbar so it’s selected
- On your keyboard, press Alt + Space
- Press M (this selects “Move”)
- Use any arrow key once, then move your mouse
- You should see the Edge window follow your cursor, click to place it back on the screen
If that works, you’re all set.
Step 2: Exit full‑screen mode
In some cases, Edge opens in a full‑screen state that looks like it disappeared.
- Make sure Edge is selected (click its taskbar icon)
- Press F11 on your keyboard
- See if the window appears normally
Step 3: Check for multiple monitors or docking stations
If you’ve recently connected or disconnected an external monitor, Edge may still be opening on a screen that’s no longer active.
- Disconnect any external monitors or docking stations
- Press Windows + P and select PC screen only
- Open Edge again
Step 4: Restart Windows Explorer
This refreshes the Windows desktop and window positioning without restarting your PC.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Find Windows Explorer in the list
- Right‑click it and select Restart
- Once the screen refreshes, try opening Edge again
If Edge still isn’t showing after these steps, just reply back and let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through the next checks or take a closer look with you.
Thanks for your patience.
