When I go to login to my Microsoft Outlook app to see my email, I am taken to the authenticator app but the pop up that asks for the code does not appear. How can I fix this?

    Hi @Jana Ray

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum and I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble signing in to the Outlook app.

This issue can occur when the Microsoft Authenticator app is not correctly prompting for approval during sign-in. In some cases, push notifications may be disabled, delayed, or not properly synced on your device, which prevents the code or approval prompt from appearing. Due to these causes, your IT admin will need to reset your account MFA settings and restoring access to it.

To move toward a resolution, I suggest the following steps:

Option 1: Contact your IT administrators

If you are either an administrator or an end user in your organization, please reach out to other IT administrators who still have access and share the steps described in the following article: Manage user authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multi-factor authentication. This will help them assist you in resetting your MFA settings and regaining access to the account.

Option 2: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by phone

(Please proceed to the third option if telephone support is not applicable in your situation.)

If you are the only administrator, the Microsoft Data Protection Team has tools and processes to verify identity and restore access to administrator accounts in this situation. You can try contacting Microsoft Global Customer Service by phone to make a request to reset your authentication method here: Customer Service Phone Numbers - Microsoft Support. During the call, ask to speak to a support agent and share all the details about your concern. Also, mention that you are the only admin and have lost access to your account. This should ensure that you are routed to the appropriate team so that this incident can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Please note that forum moderators do not have access to user account settings and cannot assist with logging in, resetting passwords, or changing access rights. Even though we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools necessary to resolve account-specific or back-end related issues, we will continue to do our best to assist you within our responsibilities.

Here are some tips, as well as an example of a command prompt, that can help you use the IVR system more effectively:

IVR: What kind of problem is it about?

    She: Authenticator.

A: What products do you use?

    B: Office 365 for business.

    Verification: Education or corporate account?

    B: For companies

    A: Are you an administrator?

    B: Yes.

A: Are there other administrators in your organization?

    B: No.

IVR: Do you need a... Service request?

She: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please connect me directly with the Data Protection Team.

Option 3: Create a new tenant to submit a support ticket (alternative method)

If you can't reach a live support agent, there is still a workaround. You can consider registering a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription using this link: Microsoft 365 Business plans and pricing | Microsoft 365.. This allows you to create a new tenant according to the instructions provided. Once set up, you can access the new tenant's admin center and submit a support ticket, asking them to speak to the Data Protection Team on behalf of your previous tenant.

To create a support ticket: In the Microsoft 365 admin center, > Help & Support.

In the description of your ticket, you must clearly explain that you are trying to regain access to your previous Microsoft 365 tenant and need assistance from the Data Protection Team. Here's a message you can use or customize:

"Hi, I can't access my previous Microsoft 365 tenant at this time because I've lost access to MFA and can't receive verification codes as a result. I'm a Global Admin, but I'm locked out and can't generate a QR code or bypass MFA.

I created this new tenant solely to request assistance. I kindly request to be connected to the Data Protection Team to verify my identity and help me restore access to the original tenant.

This is urgent because I rely on Microsoft 365 for my work and haven't been able to work for several days. I am willing to provide any necessary documents or evidence to support the recovery process."

Important Note: Please remember to cancel the trial subscription as soon as your issue is resolved to avoid unintended costs. For detailed instructions, you can use the following resource: Cancel your Microsoft enterprise subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn

I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly. I am happy to support you further and hope that the information provided was helpful for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time if you need further assistance.

If you're unable to see the pop-up for entering the code in the Microsoft Authenticator app when trying to log into your Outlook app on your iPhone, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check App Permissions: Ensure that the Microsoft Authenticator app has the necessary permissions to display notifications and pop-ups. You can check this in your iPhone's settings under the Authenticator app.
    2. Update the Apps: Make sure both the Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Authenticator apps are updated to the latest versions available in the App Store.
    3. Reinstall the Authenticator App: If the issue persists, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the Microsoft Authenticator app. This can help reset any settings that might be causing the issue.
    4. Alternative Sign-In Method: If you have set up alternative sign-in methods (like SMS or email), try using those to log in instead of the Authenticator app.
    5. Contact Support: If none of the above solutions work, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance, especially if you are using a business account.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the issue with the Microsoft Authenticator app not displaying the code for your Outlook login.
