You can see "Payment methods" is greyed out. Since I originally set up the payment methods it must have worked in the past...User's image

    Hello Steve Gray

Thanks for sharing the screenshot .

Even though you are an admin on the subscription, payment methods are not managed at the subscription scope anymore. In the new Azure billing experience:

    • Payment methods are controlled at the Billing account or Billing profile level, not at Cost Management → Azure subscriptions.
    • When you stay scoped to “Azure subscriptions”, the Payment methods blade is intentionally greyed out because that scope is read‑only for billing changes.

Please refer below document for more details:
    https://docs.azure.cn/en-us/cost-management-billing/understand/mosp-new-customer-experience

Previously (classic / older billing model), payment methods were tied more directly to subscriptions. After billing account upgrades (MOSP → MCA or updated billing experience):

    • Subscriptions are linked to a Billing Profile
    • Only Billing Profile / Billing Account scopes allow editing payment methods

    Please follow below steps:

    1. Go to Cost Management + Billing
    2. Click Change scope
    3. Switch to one of the following:
      • Billing account, or
        • Billing profile (the one associated with your subscription)
        1. Open Payment methods
        2. You can now add / edit / replace the card

This flow is documented in the below reference links:

Being Subscription Owner or Admin is not sufficient.

You must have one of these billing roles:

    • Billing Account Owner or Contributor
    • Billing Profile Owner or Contributor

Please let us know if the suggested resolution helped/ addressed your concern. If it did, we’d appreciate your feedback on the proposed resolution as it helps others with similar issues.

If the resolution did not help, feel free to share more details about the challenge you’re still facing.

    Thanks,

    Suchitra.

I think that billing profile got dragged under MCA, so ur AAD admin perms dont bind to it anymore… sry, it’s one of those dumb edge-cases. Only the billing‑owner can touch paymnt stuff now and maybe just check who’s actually holding that scope, u know.
