I can't change the email address used to verify my Microsoft account.

My PC broke, so I removed the SSD and connected it to another PC.

I was asked to enter my Bitlocker recovery code.

I was told that I could obtain the recovery code from my Microsoft account, so

I logged in and selected "Manage Recovery Key" under "Bitlocker Data Protection."

I was sent a verification email, but the email address is old and canceled,

so I can't receive the email.

I changed the email address on my Microsoft account and can now receive emails,

but for some reason the verification email address seems to be the old one.

I considered resetting my Microsoft account, but I can't wait 30 days, and

I'm worried that the reset will cause my recovery code to be lost, so I haven't decided to do it.

Please tell me how to obtain the recovery code.

This 30-day delay is intentional. It’s a security safeguard designed to protect users in case someone else tries to hijack their account by changing recovery info. The wait gives the rightful owner time to notice and stop unauthorized changes.

Unfortunately, this policy cannot be bypassed or expedited. You can read more about it directly from Microsoft here:

If you must use the computer now, the only option is to clean install, sign in with a different account or local account for now, then wait 30 days, link your own account after that. However, doing so you do lose all the files saved on the computer.

I was unable to do any of the above because I needed to send a code to my old email address. I would like to contact Microsoft support in Japan.

To obtain your BitLocker recovery code, you typically need access to the email address associated with your Microsoft account for verification. Since you mentioned that the verification email is being sent to an old and canceled email address, here are a few steps you can take:

    1. Update Security Information: Ensure that your current email address is set as the primary email for your Microsoft account. You can do this by logging into your account and navigating to the security settings. Make sure to check if the old email is still listed as a recovery option and remove it if possible.
    2. Use Alternative Verification Methods: If you have set up other verification methods (like a phone number), try using those to receive the verification code instead of relying on the email.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to change the verification email or access your recovery code through the methods mentioned, contacting Microsoft Support directly may be necessary. They can assist you in recovering your account and obtaining the BitLocker recovery key.
    4. Check for Recovery Options: If you have previously saved your recovery key in a physical location (like a USB drive or printed document), check those as well.

Resetting your Microsoft account may not be the best option since it could lead to losing access to your recovery key, so it's advisable to explore the above options first.
