    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how frustrating it is to repeatedly face sign‑in prompts that reference a phone number you no longer recognize. It can be especially difficult when the security information on your Microsoft account hasn’t been updated for many years and prevents you from accessing or correcting your details. The reason this happens is that Microsoft requires verification using the existing security info before changes can be made, and if that info is outdated or inaccessible, the system may prevent updates for your protection.

The resolution in this situation is to begin the account recovery process, and if recovery isn’t possible, you may proceed with closing the account through the Microsoft account closure page, where the system will guide you based on the information available on your profile.

Would you like help drafting a message for support or guidance on walking through the recovery or closure steps yourself?

Please feel free to follow up if you need the wording adjusted or want a version tailored to customer support.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

To close your Microsoft account, you will need to follow a specific process. Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft Account: Go to the Microsoft Account Close Portal and sign in with your credentials.
    2. Preclose Actions: Follow the list of actions you should take before closing your account, which may include backing up your data and canceling subscriptions.
    3. Mark Account for Closure: After completing the necessary preclose actions, acknowledge the consequences of closing your account and select the option to mark your account for closure.
    4. Wait for Closure: Your account will be closed in 30 days, during which you can reopen it if needed.

If you are unable to access your account due to the phone number issue, you may need to complete the recovery form to regain access before you can close the account. This form can help you verify your identity and update your account information.

If you have further issues or need assistance, consider contacting Microsoft Support for help with your account.
