Hello,

I am using an Azure for Students subscription and attempting to create a Web App through App Services in the Azure Portal.

While filling in the “Create Web App” form, I am facing the following issues:

The Subscription dropdown shows “No available items”.

The Region/Location dropdown also shows “No available items”.

The Resource Group section displays “Loading…” for a long time.

Even after creating a new Resource Group, it does not appear in the list.

I have verified that:

My Azure for Students subscription is activated.

I am signed into the correct directory.

I have refreshed the portal and tried using a different browser.

Because of this, I am unable to proceed with creating the Web App.

Has anyone experienced this issue with Azure for Students subscriptions? Are there any additional steps required to enable App Services or assign permissions?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hey there, JAMI SAI AKSHAYA

This is likely because the account you are using is not an account that has either a owner or contributor role on the subscription. Thus, when you create a resource, you are unable to select a subscription to attach the resource to.

Please can you go to your subscriptions page, by signing into your account here: https://portal.azure.com/?l=en.en-gb#view/Microsoft_Azure_Billing/SubscriptionsBladeV2

Once you have signed into your account, please click onto the Azure Students subscription from the table.

This will load the subscription page up where you can control the subscription and who has access to it. Please can you click onto 'Access control (IAM)' from the left-hand menu.

    User's image

This will bring up the access control for that subscription/resource. This allows you to control who can set up resources and use this subscription and who can't. Please can you click onto 'Role assignments' from the tab

On role assignments, you will see who has been granted access to your subscription and what access they have. In order to create resources on the subscription, you must have either contributor or owner role.

I suspect you do not have this role assigned for the account. If this is the case, you must add your account as a contributor (using an owner account). To do this, please click onto 'Add' from the top menu.

    User's image

Then click onto 'Add role assignment'

    User's image

Then you want to click onto the 'Privileged administrator roles'

    User's image

Then select the contributor role from the table and click next.

Then select members using the 'Select members' option

Then follow the process for adding a new user as a contributor.

Once this has completed, the role will be applied to your account. You must then wait or sign out and back in again to have the changes sync from the site. When creating the Web app again, you should be able to see the Azure Student subscription on the drop down menu, as I can.

    Hope this helps,
    Nathan
