Hello Kael Collver,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I realize that you've encountered a problem with OneDrive. I truly understand your confusion. Let me assist you further.
Based on your description, it seems like you have lost the work after a rename it in OneDrive. The good news is that in OneDrive, a rename or overwrite usually does not permanently delete data, and there are several built‑in recovery options you can try right now. Below is my recommended recovery order:
Step 1: Check the OneDrive Recycle Bin
When something appears “deleted” after a rename, OneDrive often moved the original file to the Recycle bin.
- Sign in to OneDrive on the web.
- Select Recycle bin from the left pane.
- Look for:
- The original Access file name
- Any file with the same name but an older date
- Select the file and choose Restore.
Important details
- Personal OneDrive: items stay 30 days
- Work/School OneDrive: items stay 93 days (unless changed by IT)

Step 2: Restore a previous version of the Access file (very important for renames)
Renaming or opening an Access file can overwrite the existing version. OneDrive keeps Version History, even if the file still exists.
- In OneDrive, locate the current Access (.accdb) file
- Right‑select the file > choose Version history
- Review earlier versions (by date/time)
- Select Restore on the version that contains your work
This works for all file types, including Access databases.
Step 3: Use “Restore your OneDrive” (undo everything back to before the rename)
If many files were affected when you renamed the Access file, you can roll your entire OneDrive back to a point in time (up to 30 days).
- Open OneDrive on the web
- Select Settings > Restore your OneDrive
- Choose a date before the rename happened
- Review the activity list
- Select Restore
This reverses all file changes after that point (files created later go to the Recycle Bin).
Step 4: Check your local computer (if you sync OneDrive)
If you use the OneDrive sync app:
Check File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac)
Look in:
- Your local OneDrive folder
- Windows Recycle Bin / Mac Trash
A local copy may still exist even if the cloud version changed.
Step 5: If nothing is visible yet
SharePoint/OneDrive keeps backend backups for 14 additional days Support can sometimes restore a site‑level backup if standard recovery fails This requires contacting Microsoft Support with:
- File name(s)
- Approximate date/time of loss
- OneDrive URL
To Contact Microsoft Support:
- Open https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
- Select Get Help
- Sign in with your Microsoft account (the same account you use for OneDrive / Office)
- Describe your issue (for example: “OneDrive files deleted after renaming Access file”)
- When offered, choose Chat or Request a call
I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.
Best Regards,
